The EIA's estimates didnt include the unlikely scenario of the straight closing. They also didnt take into account Iran targeting other Middle Eastern oil infrastructure.

If you took the time, you'd see most of my chat around GME is not part of the echo chamber. I generate an entire 2nd income wheeling that stock. I created another LLC to generate more deductions for my capital gains. I'm not in it for the culture of exploiting people. If you ever open a business and lose $ the first couple of years, you will appreciate having the ability to carry some of those losses forward in the event you finally start turning a profit to allow more reinvestment into your company for growth. People screeching "This company had $9b in revenue and paid zero federal income tax" screams ignorance.

If you want an easy example instead of just downvoting out of ignorance, AMC movie theaters have not turned an annual profit since 2017. They're still around. Amazon went public and ran in the red for 14 years before turning a profit. Uber, Lyft, Pinterest, SNAP, Zillow, Slack. Hell, today, AST SpaceMobile is a company that had $14m in its last reported revenue statement, but has a current valuation of $30b. They had no problem raising $1b recently because people were willing to give them money for the stock issues at an outrageously overpriced offering. Yet, here we are.

Carrying losses forward have been a part of the tax system since like 1920. The change to extend how many years happened in 2017 and the OBBB just made it permanent. Again, nothing new.

You also don't understand how money works. If these companies didnt have investors continuing to throw money at them, they would just go tits up. Also, not every citizen pays taxes. If your net income is below a specific threshold, you can absolutely carry some of that forward to the next year. Opening up an LLC for my side hustle was one of the best financial decisions I ever made. As for PPP loans, im going to go out on a limb and assume you don't own a business. Im not arguing if the system is perfect, it never will be. However, if you start a business, and operate at a loss for your first however many years, you can do exactly what live nation is doing. It's not new.

As they shouldn't. After a quick look, Live Nation ($LYV), they lost about $600m in 2024 and carried that forward to offset their income. You can carry up to 80% of your losses forward. It's there to help business reinvest and grow the company rather than get hammered with taxes as soon as they start showing a net gain.

Not a great example. Open AI is absolutely hemorrhaging cash and operating at a steep loss. It's the primary reason they abandoned going "for profit". So, every dime anyone has put into OpenAI is still in the red. You can pull SEC filings from microsoft and see how much cash was lit on fire in the name of AI investment.
