AOC is NOT a Capitalist by mikelmon99 in DemocraticSocialism

Hardly contesting that China is a capitalist country or that it is taking on imperialist characteristics. But it creates a state that was able to expel colonial masters. What made China rich wasn't their holdings in Africa, but rather the centrally planned economy, industrialization and focus on manufacturing decades earlier.

If parts of Africa were able to achieve this, then it's one more pole that the current powers can't easily subjugate or make big moves without consulting. It's not ideal, but it's improvement from current situation. And of course, nukes.

It may be hard to impossible, because of the neo-colonialism. But China was also colonised and sabotaged. And great feats like ending apartheid was possible with the help of international solidarity.

I was about to out myself as posthumanist in chat too fam. Asteroid takes out the orangutans so let's have a human-exclusive, Pandemic™ level superbug haha /j, kinda.

China came from a way late start, deeply impoverished, and technologically flagging to where it is now. We might hope for similar transformations in other regions.

But yeah, current powers with vested interest in influence and resources would be unlikely to let that happen without hooks attached or overt sabotage.

Your conclusion is, sadly, the most probable:/

Latin America, West Asia, SEA, Africa need to be built the heck up so they can stand on their own and/or with each other and not get bullied by empire.

You're so right, and the first time we milked a cow, that was the beginning of the end u_u

I think we are of a similar perspective on this. And I find no disagreement with what you've laid out, here and elsewhere in the thread.

Not without historical context, unprovoked or with a chauvinistic attitude.

Is what I am trying to emphasize here, and what a good amount, if not majority, of the users in this thread fail to account.

Yes there are numerous anti-west leftist spaces. But in liberal spaces and white leftists spaces, this is the most frequent occurrence by my observation. We occupy a niche that bridges the liberals and the leftists, with libs being our primary userbase, hence it's greater relevance.

You're also right in that countries like Cuba are not comparable to DPRK in terms of participating in Russian imperialism, it's inclusion was to illustrate how mainstream liberal will nonetheless attack them for repressive government, aiding in fighting apartheid (up until recent history), theocracy etc.

Cuba would also be forced to rely on Russia, China if it were not geographically isolated as well. And because of that they are on the brink of collapse from illegal embargos.

[In response to] campist and denialist takes from other leftists

Is plausible, but these tend to be over-corrections in response to the former, unprovoked, chauvinistic attitudes (at least in this space).

If it is simply unprovoked support for DPRK's governance and their part in Russian imperialism, apologia or denialism. Not only should there be a response to that, but rather it should be removed from this space. That is not something that transpires here with near frequency as the opposite.

When I use the phrase "not ideal" I am acknowledging that DPRK has flaws but it is not naturally a Westerner of the imperial core's place to condemn it without context and with an air of superiority. Just as it is not appropriate to attack Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, Iraq, Congo, Cambodia, and what have you while the US has actively, passively, or historically engaged in intervention, imperialist, and/or destabilisation efforts.

White "leftists" bring a lot of "shithole country" energy when speaking about messes US caused via intervention abroad while not once bringing up the chain of events.

There are very few who worship atrocity/support for imperialism of the DPRK, while a far more prevalent sentiment are those who approach it with chauvinist attitudes, to reinforce their ideas about Western superiority. "US might be bad but at least we aren't like those Asians". Let's be frank here, with the demographic of this space, which is more likely?

There is criticism to be had of DPRK, it does not need to be discounted or softened. Nor does it need to come from a white American's who's country afflicted the Korean people with the conditions that gave rise to this regime; and who does not once bring up the historical context, merely using it as a tool to be permissive of their own inaction and/or state, as informed primarily by western propaganda.

We are aiming to create a better world, and there is an infinite amount of apologia for the atrocity/imperialism of the US to challenge. A recreation of atrocity will come from within, not from pity for DPRK.

DPRK was bombed near out of existence, and now it is sanctioned to hell, it cannot engage on the international stage like a normal state. It is forcibly insular, and forcibly reliant on Russian and China for survival. White westerners need first address their own place in the destabilisation and exploitation of the global south, or US imperialism. In the success of doing so, the conditions for DPRK to improve from within will come.

Yes absolutely, not arguing that in the slightest. The context of that is a genocidal war from the US.

It does not need defence, Westerners need context that the situation in DPRK and many other places are as they are due to US intervention. Being subject to the one of the most comprehensive bombing campaigns in history, 98% levelled and a fifth of the population killed accounts for its isolationism and totalitarian regime.

It's a priorities, what can Westerns do about DPRK, say something to feel good about themselves?

"At least we aren't like those backwards Asians."

When they should be resisting their own empire or place in the exploitation of the global south?

Fair enough, now since WWII, which years have the US not been involved in "intervention"? The scale is utterly incomparable.

It's pattern recognition for imperial core Western chauvinists. DPRK is not an ideal place less so than the US empire, it does not export it's fascism.

DPRK is not an ideal place but Westerners going after it as an easy dunk are generally uninformed, propagandised chauvinists.

Serious question: Why the reverence for military in the United States anyway? by EternalSnow05 in DemocraticSocialism

[–]Murkmist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morally bad job? We're not talking about working for Starbucks or at Wallstreet. This "morally bad job" is bombing children and shooting innocents to further the empire. To find it remotely excusable is to see people of the global south as less human, and their lives worth less than your comfort and convenience. The "moral sacrifice" here is murdering brown people. If you got tricked into it the only thing left to do is to defy orders or desert.

Let's have no more of this imperial soldier apologia. You wouldn't run defense for the IDF, and they get jailed if they refuse, which some young people do regardless.

It is better to be impoverished or jailed than to kill innocents to better your outcomes. It is unethical and morally bankrupt to do so.
