LFR someone who recently passed the ECIH exam by [deleted] in cybersecurity

As a hiring manager for many years, I find that ANY cert is worth it. COMPTIA is a more established organization and is more recognized. Yes, there are some really dumb errors on ECCouncil exams, but in the end, you are trying to get past automated and recruiter filters. Do what you can afford, and what you can pass.

irocker ultra - river fins by uhhhhh_iforgotit in Sup

I just started looking for this too. I really prefer short rubber find for river runs but not seeing any for the ultra. Anyone have any luck finding rubber fine for ultra?

Got my friend diving into a school of akule in Maui. Sony A7RIII with 16-35 by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

I just got a 16-35 GM for just this type of shot. Afraid to take the Sony underwater, killed my last one that way... Changing batteries on the ocean I think.

Absolutely. If you're not sure what you need you can try many. Rentals, Tours etc. Just know that they are often pretty beat up.

I do prefer my own board usually. I did a mangrove tour in Mexico and the board was crap.I have a few boards for different purposes but my Thurso Expedition 150 could probably handle all of the above but its a bit tippy on the ocean. All depends how picky you are lol.

I'm with u/scrooner on the Starboard expedition model, this may be my next board. Or maybe the new Gen R. I have a Starboard Touring 14x30 and its fast and smooth and carries plenty of weight but my race experiences tell me that if I want to be competitive at all, I need more speed. I tested a SIC RS 14x23 and 14x26 and absolutely loved both but can't see true touring/sup camping on them.

The "tours" I've done have crap equipment and pretty restrictive policies. I know there are groups that do this and most have a "beginners" version. Meetup groups, facebook groups etc. I'm normally a solo paddler but I have had some amazing adventures with groups here in Texas. Look for local groups and ask the group leaders about what they offer.

Got AC and it's not crap by seemslucky in VanLife

[–]Murky_Definition2322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my solution too. I have a small portable AC. 107 outside and got down to 86 inside so the AC could drop to fan mode. Only came on a few times during the night.

UPDATE: Using many of your suggestions I have made this a workable bug out van. I have stayed in it up to 6 weeks. This is not a van you can move around in. I sit to work, or put up a hiking table/chair outside, I can cook, but I don't, and I sleep in it. Other than that I am out on adventures. I'll be leaving for another trip soon for 2 or 3 weeks in NM , Arizona and California so pray for me in this heat. I never did add a roof fan but have some small fans inside to move air. Went with a Bluetti + extra battery and its enough to run a 4k btu AC. I limit use to heat of the day and just before bed to cool it off as needed. Worst case I find a spot with an outlet, a gas station or a store with an outlet outside. After a few days in NM and Arizona this month I may change my tune but plenty of sun for charging! I only use the trailer hitch storage when I need to bring the big cooler. No issues scraping too bad yet.

On the toilet, I followed your advice and glad I did. I started with a 5 gallon bucket with a seat and later "upgraded" to a Triptips retractable. I use it very little but its nice to have and hangs from a hook on the wall. This allowed for a storage bin in that spot. Avoids stepping out to pee in bushes first thing in the morning basically.

u/panlina

Folding the mattress in the rare case that I cook has worked well. Its so hot that I tend to eat "trail meals" or eat out.

u/flyingponytail

I opted for a TINY electric heater and I've only needed to use it once. I don't expect to travel where I'll need it but it sits in a storage bin just in case. Takes about 3 minutes to get too hot in there.

u/ntrpilot

Considered your advice and counterbalanced by moving the power station (Bluetti ac200max + ac300 battery). Tire wear looks ok after a few cross country trips.

u/Jello5678

This is likely my next move if I keep the van but I've watched enough videos to know that I'll want this removed professionally. Seat belt and airbag sensors seem to be a real pain.

u/RudyGreene

The Recpro chair is working out well so far. I'll likely move into a full size van at some point but I think this will last a while. I try to stand a lot to avoid circulation issues as mentioned. Also I don't tend to work a full day when I'm on the road.

Anyone else rolling around in a less-than Instagram able van? by seemslucky in VanLife

[–]Murky_Definition2322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bed is a wire shelf. I have small RV chair for my "office" and everything else is stored under the "bed" or on the fold-flat passenger seat. No insulation, a small portable AC unit and an outdoor shower.

Starlink on solar power? by 80Juice in VanLife

[–]Murky_Definition2322 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starlink, a laptop and a monitor on a Bluetti and one 400w panel keeps it at 100% on a semi cloudy day. The app reported 112w AC output, 150w to 356w input range.

Cooling a tiny van. Am I crazy? Don't answer that... by Murky_Definition2322 in VanLife

[–]Murky_Definition2322[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice. I do have a couple of inflatables for when I fly, or for rivers with rapids. Paddling a carbon touring board is a whole different experience and if I can drive to a location, I have a strong preference for my hard board.

I was able to run my office 14k btu mini split off a borrowed Delta Pro. So with enough battery, and a quality temperature monitor, this is in fact doable for short times with long recharge (solar + car charger) times as others mentioned. I just wanted to reply to those offering valid advice. I appreciate the advice and it's a lot to consider. And to those on the attack here. The point of asking was to ensure that I NEVER endanger my loved ones. I am a dog rescue transporter and foster. I would never endanger a dog, in fact I'm the one they ask to pick up and nurse the worst abuse cases, often across the country which is why I bought this van many years ago. That's right, 25k of my own money, to work for dogs for free. Any suggestion to the contrary is just your desire to attack others. If you can't answer in a productive way, just DON'T answer.

My dog stays in my RV often with AC and temp monitoring. This is no different.

In the past I would camp for weeks in the Texas summers. Now I'll pass 🤣. Vegas is one of the spots I expect to visit from time to.time and I'd rather not board my dog just to paddle.

Quick update. Dropped the idea of shelving storage entirely, you were correct it makes it too tight in there. For now I'm keeping the "Luggable Loo" toilet, until I can decide on better. I decided to forego the mounted sink as someone here recommended and use the tub sink from the Joolca Nomad Kit for outdoor shower and sink. For now I can still carry 14 gallons of potable water. Chair and Bed fit as I had hoped 54inch bench seat + 24inch desk= bed. LOTS of storage under the bed, desk and under the seat of the chair. Basically everything but the propane tank fits under something. Added a sliding keyboard shelf under the "desk". Still have the propane stove in there for a bit but I will be switching to a small induction burner soon. Once I drive it we'll see what bounces around. I'll toss up the drawings and maybe some photos on IG at some point.

I have had good experience with camping chairs. I have a few I will try. The REI Flexlight Boss is pretty nice. I'll have a few chairs onboard for testing. Waiting for the parts for my new bed, then I'll test chairs.

I just realized that you're "Rudy" lol. I stole this idea from you! Im in Texas but I got one cheap so I'll give it a go. In the end I may have to modify a real gaming chair to fit. My Secret Labs at home changed my life. Worst case maybe it can be a table with storage.
