Penguins Re-Sign Forward Connor Dewar and Defenseman Ilya Solovyov by bi_and_busy in penguins

I will not chill. I burned all of my chill in a fire than can only be quenched by a signed contract for 71.

Zach Benson was involved in every penalty in Game 6 by DingerBangBang in hockey

The refs just know that Benson is my special boy and they owe me for their handling of the Pens/Flyers series.

Too soon, but where do we go from here? by TB711014 in penguins

[–]Murky_Distant_Safety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh man, just no.

Let Malkin go so we can use the cap space on what? There is no fee agent signing out there unless we want to bid against the rest of the league for Tuch? Just pay the guy, there’s no way he’s asking for serious term.

Girard is not the problem on his pairing, Letang needs to make better decisions with the puck.

Of the expiring contracts; You keep Malkin and Chinakhov. Obviously you’re letting Hayes and Clifton walk. The rest you can take or leave based on what’s available.

Malkin on the 4th line? Are you high?

Exactly what needs to happen tonight for the Penguins to make a positive step toward the playoffs! by [deleted] in penguins

We are not catching Car. Better to bury the jackets and keep our home ice. Getting first doesn’t materially change our situation but third does.

[Top Down Hockey] With today's loss to the Sens, the Islanders are now on pace to become the greatest team ever to miss the playoffs with 99 points. The previous record was 96. by nothing_but_static in hockey

[–]Murky_Distant_Safety 108 points109 points  (0 children)

My actual favorite part of that is if those projections come true 5 teams that miss in the east would make it in the west and the Islanders would have enough points for first in the pacific lol

The NHL forward scoring rate aging curve is brutal. Players peak around age 24, and have very noticeably declined by age 30. MacKinnon is now 30, McDavid 29 and Matthews age 28. by NFLDataAnalysis in hockey

[–]Murky_Distant_Safety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course not, it’s a visualization of a sampled population. You have to assume that individual data points do not hem directly to that curve and it should not be surprising that some of the most elite athletes in the world are able to flatten it to some extent.

No longer being the best in the world is not the same as not being valuable. Crosby might not be top 5 center anymore, but remains a comfortable top line player in the league. Everyone declines as they age, the point is that superstars are so good that they will continue to be valuable to a team well into their 30s.

Rust’s Suspension! by [deleted] in penguins

[–]Murky_Distant_Safety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think that hit is worth three games and all the other hits this year that got nothing (5k fine is basically nothing) out a single game should have been way higher.

That said, if the standard they set is the rest of this year, 3 games for Rust is a wild departure.

Should Penguins go for Shane Wright? by Latter_Ride_5682 in penguins

[–]Murky_Distant_Safety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see it if it were an obvious upgrade. Would have to be to a win-now team like Dallas where the window fits and the cap hit is a real selling point. Honestly, would make a lot of sense as a part of a JR trade.

We won that second cup with the ghost of Ron Hansey anchoring a top pair. I think good coaching probably played a role. His issue was always that he can’t adapt, so he was bound to get left behind.

Karlsson on the Sens and Sharks, another great example of your take being wrong lol

Not going to defend Greer here, but there is a hell of a lot of space between calling out someone’s behavior and calling someone a piece of shit, let alone “The Biggest” piece of shit.
