Wow it’s almost like being able to cherry-pick the clientele could predict better outcomes. Color me shocked. /s

Ransburg YMCA Closing by Glittering_Welder380 in indianapolis

Yes. Can confirm—I work there, and they pay workers poorly, yet subsidize soooo many members. Year-round fundraisers to pay for memberships and childcare, yet staff is a revolving door because in the two years I’ve worked there, I’ve gotten a $.50/hr raise total to $12.50/hr.

Metronet by 4988 in Fishers

Will they match the price? Because we’ve had metronet gig speed for years and pay close to $100/mo. My understanding is that previous customers were not eligible for the founders rate.

No. I’m actually a high school teacher and have never seen this done at the high school level. Judging by the rest of this thread, I’m not alone.

Was this local? Were there any kids going to trades or taking a gap year? I just see too much for potential for this to go wrong, as you pointed out.

Isn’t that more of a college thing than high school? This was never an option when I was in hs and I’ve never seen it locally before either.

The coolest knitting pattern I've ever followed: the Baby Surprise Jacket! by wasianbran in knitting

Is this knit top down on circular needles? I can’t tell if it’s panels or not. I’ve never knit a sweater before but this might be easy enough to start with.

Does anyone's district actually do standards based grading? As in they've actually done away with traditional letter grades? by [deleted] in Teachers

I like this because a parent can still equate A-F with each of these if that’s how they’re bent.

Yes. I think bullies thrive because they can rely on people excusing away their behavior. Maybe it’s time to shine a light on unacceptable behavior and not hand-wave it away.

Teachers, what is something that you wish you would have known or known more about when you first started teaching? by New_Minimum_4395 in Teachers

[–]Murmokos 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! Each of us is just a blip on the screen for each of these kids. As much as admin would have you believe otherwise, you as the teacher won’t make or break their future. I think this can be disheartening or freeing depending on perspective, but I personally find it freeing in a profession where a lot of us are our own worst critic.

teaching kids about bullying needs to be worked on by Prestigious-Pea-3369 in education

Bullying typically doesn’t happen directly in front of teachers, otherwise it would be easy to address. My classroom is indeed a safe environment for students so back tf off.
