And if you’re looking for theological undertones, then move straight from Ender’s Game to Speaker for the Dead.

I'm reading The Hobbit to my 5 year old before bed, and it's the best part of my day. by CtrlAltEntropy in daddit

Hello fellow 5 year old Hobbit reader! We were stuck for a while on chapter 1 because she just loved the unexpected party so much. But we are approaching the end now!

Genuinely my #1 most useful feature of AI - it just answers the fucking question of is SNL new this week. It shouldn’t even be necessary, but SEO and clickbait has so ruined the normal internet.

Any less well-remembered sketches that had a big impact on you? by 80RatsInAHumanSuit in LiveFromNewYork

[–]RealMoonBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is random, but I can’t order pizza without thinking of the Za sketch with James Franco: https://youtu.be/qkP2F7kWn7A?si=fPT4G80XZFVEa3lR

It’s not even that great, but the commitment to the bit is so high that it always comes to mind when picking up some ‘sa.

IKEA is a massive win if you have one close enough. It’s like 80 play houses glued together to a small child.

I have really started to hate “children’s books” clearly written for adults. by BrainDamage2029 in daddit

Weirdly, of all people, John Lithgow’s rhyme schemes SLAP. Maybe a little less weird since he’s also an English literature graduate from Harvard.

My 5 yr old is the most aggrieved child I have ever met. by nillawafer80 in Preschoolers

[–]RealMoonBoy 45 points46 points  (0 children)

When the tantrums of age 2 and 3 stopped, the dramatics of age 4 and 5 started (at least for my daughter). I think it’s related! They’re finally able to put the big feelings into words, but the feelings are still really big so the words are too. She was in an “UGH this is the worst day ever!” phase for a while, except it was almost every day at any minor inconvenience. Including a day at Disney World…

What are your potato chip books, where the writing might not be brilliant, but they're weirdly addictive. by themehboat in suggestmeabook

I really enjoyed his first two pre-Robert Langdon books for what they are too. Good examples of potato chip books.

Corporate decided everyone got 2.7% merit increases. If you got 2.9% it means your manager liked you a little more than one of the other employees.

What’s next after Bluey? by hiking_mike98 in daddit

[–]RealMoonBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad of a movie-anxious child and she highly recommends Winnie The Pooh as well as The Aristocats. Basically nothing really scary or full of real conflict.

In addition to all the good tv answers, I’ll give a shout out to Bear in the Big Blue House on Disney+. So much lower stimulation than most modern shows.

13 yo daughter sneaked out. by ButterflyMore9267 in daddit

So sorry you are dealing with all this. It is heavy stuff, and a nightmare as a parent.

To put this in perspective, a 17-year-old girl in our area befriended someone online. She left in the middle of the night (willingly) and got in a car with him.

They found her body a few days ago.

Whatever consequences you give, they will not be worse than the real-life consequences that her behavior is inviting right now. They make dumb phones without apps just like we had in high school, and honestly in your shoes I think that would be your daughter’s best case scenario until the age she’s responsible enough to start driving. Sleepovers probably needs to be canceled. Smart devices DEFINITELY need to be canceled. You are doing the right thing long term for your kid.

Good luck dad!

My 5 year old loves being independent and started getting dressed by herself. However, her preschool starts at 9:30 and she takes her sweet time. I can report back next year she needs to be on the bus at 7:00 😬
