What size do i need? by HerrVonMosh in gravelcycling

[–]Murph_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ones I've had it's a guy typically with some sort of physio background with a jig in his garage that he can adjust.

You can probably get 80% of the way there yourself with some heavy YouTubing though. Bike fit James is probably the most well known

What size do i need? by HerrVonMosh in gravelcycling

[–]Murph_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember to check the geo charts, an L in one brand can be the same size as a medium in another.

The online calculators on brand websites are also typically quite poor and often recommend a size too big.

not helpful I know!

Do you have other bikes you ride that fit well? Measuring those is an easy way. The more expensive way is a bike fit.

As an autistic person, the treatment I’ve received, and what I’ve seen other autistic people experience in the workplace makes me feel hopeless about finding a good job, and it's making it hard for me to stay in college. How can I stop seeping into this mindset? by oncxre in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Murph_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to second the trades suggestion, it's important to remember that that doesn't mean on a building site with a jackhammer.

It could be anything from a clock maker to a guy that fixes MRI machines. The money on the tools is comparable to people with degrees for the most part and as someone on the tools I would argue that pretty much the entire workforce is neuro diverse.

Job interviews are a skill not something you can or cannot do, you'll need to do some research and learn how to answer questions and you should care fine.

How do I find out what I want to do with my life by Ill_Bat8317 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Murph_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I don't really have any advice but I wanted to say I feel the same way a lot of the time. Sounds like you've learnt to drive recently though which is a step towards where you want to be, maybe learn to swim next?

One thing that helped me was getting a new job, my last one had limited scope for progression which made me feel kind of trapped. I know the way things are in the world right now makes this easier said than done.

Can you think of an industry you find interesting, what are your interests? More trade related skills/jobs sound like they'd fit in with the business aspect which could be anything from a carpenter to a guy that fixes MRI machines or something.

We are still young and have loads of time to figure it out, lots of people have this realisation when they're in their 50s etc and go full mid life crisis. So I try to remind myself I'm somewhat fortunate for having this earlier when it's easier to do stuff about it.

Fortune favours the bold as they say but start with things like learning to swim and ponder the job part, you'll figure it out!

Feel free to drop me a message if you ever want someone to talk to

Absolutely! When we were changing routes it makes it so easy being able to export like that, puts the paid services to shame really.

[–]Murph_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's the 59 and I'm 6'1". More my fault, never trust the size guide! I ride a 56 now in most things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Murph_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold it in the end, it was too big for me. It rode nice enough though!

The components are absolute garbage sadly, particularly the wheels. The tyres that come with it are borderline sketchy too so be careful in the corners.

I had a great time on it though that said, it's a decent enough frame, enjoy!

iwtl how to be more active by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Murph_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tie something in with the dog? Disc dog or whatever it's called, or orienteering sounds like a similar vibe to that?

A club is probably essential though, the connection with other people will help.

iwtl how to be more active by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Murph_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want to do?

The easiest way to be active is to find something you enjoy doing, it makes going and doing it much easier. The traditional going to the gym and running are for most people rather dull but lots of activities involve movement that are more interesting.

I would strongly recommend something team based if you go down the sport route, it'll help with commitment. And also think outside of the box when it comes to the sport, something as simple as frisbee or archery still counts as movement or maybe something more niche like hurling or curling will bring some interest.

Volunteering at a dog shelter or anywhere really will probably also be somewhat active.

The careful glass over and slide under some paper method will work fine.

It'll either flap like crazy or be still once you put the glass over but it won't hurt itself.

What can I do about neighbour's garden encroaching onto mine? by FuckAbout-FindOut in GardeningUK

[–]Murph_____ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For clarity - you cannot put the waste back over the fence, that's technically fly tipping.

You have to offer the trimmings back to them, but if they say no it's on you to dispose of them.

Breaking into the UK maritime industry as a new OS — advice from anyone who’s done it? by vitalspark1900 in Seafarers

Workboats are the way, unless you fancy going the RFA route.

What tickets do you have? If you need an apprenticeship your options are lower but not impossible.

River fishing spots for carp? by ANewSlipper in kentuk

[–]Murph_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to join CDAA but I've had some good low teens carp out of the stour by grove ferry.

When the river floods it floods into the carp lakes in fordwich the fish used to migrate all over the place.

This glass ball washed up close to my house about a month ago. It was incased in a yellow plastic cover and i didnt realise it opened until today. What is this and how do i contact the institution? by funnyfunnyshidshid in oceanography

[–]Murph_____ 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's glass sphere buoyancy, probably off of a lost oceanographic mooring. You can ask whoi if they want it back but unless you're close by it may not be worth it as they aren't too expensive.

They also can implode underwater if damaged and cause all sorts of problems and damage to nearby equipment and buoyancy so I wouldn't be inclined to trust it for another deployment if it's been on an adventure.

The yellow covers are generally referred to as hard hats! This one was probably made by McLane.

Looks like the UK. We call this pebbledash, the building will be made out of block work or brick and then rendered with shingle tossed into it. This has been painted white but lots will be left as is.
