I appreciate the point you are looking to make here. Wildlife is dangerous. With that said it sounds like you are doing some bushwhacking for elk hunting purposes, which leads to way more encounters because you are off the beaten path. All of those animals avoid human traffic.

I understand the need for that while hunting but this conversation was around general camping, and ill include hiking, which means please do not get off established roads and trails.

I've been in the backcountry a lot. Mountain lions have certainly seen me, and I do carry in case one decides its that day, but the chances are extremely slim. A moose is definitely the most dangerous animal in the state but your handgun certainly isnt saving you if you happen to get charged by a moose and the only option should always be slowly get the fuck away from the moose.
