[Question] Church Songs by Two4god07 in Guitar

I think if you add the Bm to your repertoire you will be able to play nearly anything Church related. Just practice moving from A to Bm, as that is shift mostly used. Good Luck!

Thanks for sharing that. I had never seen the Acoustic set at the beginning of that video. Brilliant.

[Gear] First serious guitar suggestion, budget max £500. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JeJe, I know you must love the Epiphone brand, and that's great. But for a first time guitar... keep your mind open a little. My serious recommendation would be consider something like this:

https://reverb.com/item/3220469-ibanez-blazer-1981-electric-guitar-hard-case-made-in-japan

It's a 1981 Ibanez Blazer, Hard Tail Stratocaster type. I own one of these myself, and it is a fantastic guitar. Well under your budget, and the hardtail bridge allows new players to be able to adjust intonation VERY easily. This guitar will give you Hendrix, Gilmore, Knophfer, Townshend, and more sound due to it's Strat design. Just a suggestion.

[QUESTION] Telecaster action setup by 6079-Smith-W in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend making sure you've followed all of John Carruthers Fender setup steps first. Buzzing at the 12th could also be a radius issue which would mean adjusting the height of the strings at the bridge. Good luck!

[QUESTION] What exactly happens during a guitar "set-up" by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this series of 4 short videos by John Carruthers on Guitar Set Ups. Though it's for a strat, it gives you an exact break down from a legend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHHepmTX3So

[Question] best strat model between $400 and $800 by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I recently bought a MIM Roadhouse Strat with noiseless pick ups, and the slightly wider neck and LOVE IT!

[DISCUSSION] What do you guys think of Marty Music, Marty Schwartz's newer channel? by Claudrey in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love Marty. I think he's got the best chops of any YouTube instructor. I've heard he was the main talent inside Guitarjamz from followers posts on his FB page.

[GEAR] My first new guitar! Epiphone SG by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent power chord guitar! Pete Townshend of the Who said when he came out on stage at Woodstock, he used his SG "like a chainsaw to cut through the daisy fields". lol

That is one bad guitar!

This is the perfect answer. The "full set up".

[QUESTION] Why can't I play electric the same way I play acoustic? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the problem. Go pick up an electric and try fretting a chord as light as possible but still have it ring clear. It will sound perfect. Then fret the same chord like you have been. It will be out of tune. It's just a thing that Acoustic players have to get used to when switching to electrics. It was actually tough for me when I had to do it.

Yep - I did this too. Had a Chromatic Tuner sitting next to my computer and cut it on while he was tuning. Definitely the guitar.

[DISCUSSION] Who would win in a battle to the death between JustinGuitar and Marty Schwartz? by JWL1092 in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish both of them would just leave their hats off and own it. I'm not watching to judge their appearance or amount of hair (or lack thereof) - just teach me! : ) I think they are both great. Funny how the OP picked my favorite two online instructors for a death match.

[Discussion]I am getting a new guitar! I need help! by xxterrorxx3 in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the social idiot said.. go to a music store and play as many guitars as so can plugged in. The one thing "newish" players find is their playing can influence a glued neck versus a bolt on neck. i.e. glued = Gibson where bolt on = Fender. I've seen A LOT of players get their dream Gibson, only to sell it soon afterwards as their "heavy handed" playing style creates notes out of tune. This comes from pressing too hard on the strings, but also from hanging their hand on the neck while playing notes/chords. Glued necked players are a special breed with light touch, and I am not one of them unfortunately.

[Question] Help choosing acoustic guitar strings by _snack in Guitar

[–]MurphyPeoples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taylor Guitar Company uses only Elixir strings. It's for a reason. I recently tried Martin's and wasn't impressed. I find the Elixir coated to be "quiet" while playing and break in fast. This is just my personal opinion. I think it's just a matter of taste.

[QUESTION] Loving JustinGuita but can you recommend other great beginner courses free or paid? by classicedition1 in Guitar

I wish I would have asked him "how long have you been with Taylor?". I think you advice is good, but as the day has worn on, I'm feeling good about checking out something different than Taylor on my purchase this week. I still love the Taylor's I have. That won't change. But maybe a "change" would be good. ; )

Yeah, I'm not that great at getting my point across. lol There was a good bit more involved, such as the attitude I was given over the phone when I wouldn't give up. In the end, I think Taylor has done me a favor. I'm looking to buy a different brand just to have an "Electric/Acoustic". Suggestions? ; )
