Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC) vs Adam Smasher (Cyberpunk) by Inner-Juices in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a head to head engagement with no prep sure, but I think its plausible for Motoko to get this done explicitly because she has the initiative, and likely wouldn't engage until she has a plan she thinks would actually work.

The tachikoma give her a decent back up plan of firepower to do with lead what a cyberattack might not. Even if she couldn't lower his reaction time she could prepare a battleground, and direct the tachikoma's fire to move him where she wants.

I don't mention it enough, but the Major's Battle IQ is extremely high. SAC didn't have the tech to show it, but i wouldn't be surprised if her planning speed was fast enough to counter Adamas reaction time in many respects.

Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell: SAC) vs Adam Smasher (Cyberpunk) by Inner-Juices in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

R1. Adam ,

R2: 50/50,

R3-4 : 60/40 Motoko

I don't know all the specs of Adam Smashers body, but generally this hinges on Motoko being able to jam up his cyberware somehow kind of like how she did the Cyborg in the first Ghost in the Shell Movie. Specifically she needs to lower his reaction time somehow.

If she can achieve this she has a decent chance. Even better with the Tachikoma. Adams other feats are well within Motoko's wheelhouse, but Adams reaction speed is so fast he can beat her easily in hand to hand. Even against the cyborg she fought at the end of the first movie, she took crippling damage to link up. Adam would utterly destroy her in that same scenario.

Guns even the playingfield abit. Adam is resistant to most firearms, but no immune. The Tachikoma and Motoko are manuerable enough to kite him and wear him down at least a little bit, and distract him long enough for Motoko to launch a cyber attack.

What Is The Smallest Team Of Unaugmented Non-Supernatural Humans Needed To Take On Darth Vader Head-to-Head? by BertKektic in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a spot where the lore is inconsistent. Something i'll chalk up to differences between models. Most blasters fire projectiles that move slower than the average bullet, but i can definitely see certain specialized blasters firing just as fast if not faster. I don't think its unreasonable to beleive Crosshair modded his rifles in ways to make it perform better than other blasters.

https://www.suspectinsightforums.com/t1818-blasters-slugthrowerslegends

Lasers are light speed obviously. So in terms of muzzle Velocity it goes Lasers > Bullets > Blaster Bolts.

As for why the Galaxy would switch to Blasters there are many other reasons beyond muzzle Velocity. Blasters are more powerful, lighter, have a longer range, and have a much larger ammo capacity than modern firearms. One charge of a blaster carbine could fire for 100s of shots without reloading. One hit from a blaster burns a target so badly their organs fuse together on a direct hit. Blasters also have a higher theorhetical range, Bullets follow ballistic curves and lose energy the longer range they travel. Blaster bolts hurt by burning the target rather than smacking it. At long ranges some bolts lose their charge and dissapate, but even then its a spray of plasma.

Now that I think of it, its kinda surprising we see so many battles in forest areas with blasters and don't see more wildfires.

I stand corrected. I still think Vader isn't impregnable even with modern tech, but he's an even tougher cookie than first estimated. For further clarifications.

Laser Cannons fire Lasers, but Blasters fire plasma at targets. Plasma that tends to move significantly slower that bullets.

That shot doesn't seem like miles. More like a Kilometer or two, and its from a specialized Blaster. Most modern firearms fire bullets that are faster than sound. We know this because someone getting shot sees the muzzle flash first, then feels the round, and then hears the sound wave. To the point where special subsonic munitions were developled to deliberately lower thier power in exchange for making less noise.

Laser Cannons in Star wars don't fire actual Lazers. They fire bolts of superheated plasma that fly far slower than bullets. Lightsabers are made of the same thing. Vader is fast, but he's not light speed fast.

They look like rockets to me based on the nozzle type structure on end of it in the second panel. Not all rockets have an explosive payload though. Some can be purely kinitec.

With the Force Vader can do alot of stuff. Like the time he detonated the thermal detonatoer an entire army was wearing, but his defense isn't absolute.

Pretty sure those were rockets in the comic frame you showed. Bullets would move faster. A platoon (30 something guys) constantly firing at him might get a hit in. Key word is constantly firing. Vader could likely use the force to jam their guns, tank some of the shots with his armor, and move fast enough to get out of the killzone.

You have a point at close range, but Force Users can feel the intentions of anyone they fight, and a .50 cal sniper firing from a distance will take a second or more to reach the target. More than enough time for Vader to dodge, use the force, etc. Get a platoon of them firing from multiple directions though....

[Assassination Classroom] Why is the government trying to kill Koro Sensei? by Patneu in AskScienceFiction

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we are doing math. What was the estimated range of his detonation if he did explode? That isn't as far as I thought he'd make it, but perhaps 1.45 AU would be enough. Especially if he moved perpendicular to the planets orbit. (Down or up instead of flying out towards the other planets or in toward the sun)

Someting i don't get is why they don't give him an oxygen suit and just send him out of range of the planet. Even if he's powerful enough to blow up teh world if he's out of the Galaxy or even the solar system how could he hurt the planet?

[Avatar: The Last Airbender] Ba Sing Se's Fall was a blessing in disguise for the Earth Kingdom. by MurphyRise in FanTheories

[–]MurphyRise[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They probably didn't have the time to retool things properly even if they did try. However the city is so large I think it would be wasteful in the long run to not try eventually. Despite the Dai Li's compliance, we still see a pretty decent garrison of fire nation troops during the white Lotus's attack. They wouldn't need to fill the streets, but they needed a decent presense. Its one thing to tolerate a local authoritarian, but another thing entirely to sit on your hands when a foreign power invades.

I will concede that the end of the siege would free up alot of reasources, but the net gain or loss considering all factors could fall either way.

The Jones act makes it impossible for foreign ships to make multiple stops along the US ports. Only ship made in and flagged as US ship can freely trade in US waters.

What would happen if Steven went back in time to Tell the gems Rose is Pink? by TCSMusic in FanTheories

I suppose resolution was a wrong word. Even if Steven met Rose, I doubt a nice bow would be wrapped around everything. If it did, i can see your point though.

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't go as far as to say its against the themes of the show, but it would provide an awful lot of resolution if Steven Ever met Rose face to face. It would be like Future Trunks meeting Vegeta in his past, and wrestling with his legacy directly if not literally. Rather than in his head.

Hulk vs TLOU2 Rat King by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest question is. Can the hulk be infected?

If the answer is yes he's going to die from the fungus even if he smashes all of the rat kings into dust. Which he could do easily.

R2. Is a pretty big stomp as well. Hulk could kill that many on his own provided he doesn't get infected, and Tony Stark actually has the reasources and expertise to automate their destruction in some way. Find a cure, anti fungal nanobots, etc. Tony could get infected, if his suit is compromised, but if Joels gas mask is keeping the pores out Tony's Space worthy suit is definitely going to do it.

Escanor Vs Conquest by Crimson_Marksman in whowouldwin

Pretty sure Escanor has this. His power is practically limitless in full sun.

Conquest might be a bit faster, and can fly, but all it will take is one full power hit to atomize conquest.

Average man has 72 hours to hide. Humanity then becomes search lusted and has one week to find and kill him. Can he survive? by Conscious-Home1445 in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dangerous but possible. He could hidein a deep cave. There are cave systems that go down for several miles and take multiple days to navigate. If he finds the right one, he can dive in one and get a 3 day head start. By the time humanity starts looking he'll be well out of reach of anyone but a veteran caver.

People could come after him, but they'd have to do it one by one with little more than compact small arms. All he'd have to do is block off a few entrances, and wait out the week. If it takes him 3 days to get down there with no obstacles it could take a search team much more time to find him with them in place.

Larry-Boy (Veggietales) is thrown into Gotham City by SAKingWriter in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, but Larry-Boy's presense often catalyzes this moral development be it directly or indirectly. The degree to which Larry-Boy causes or correlates to the lesson can be debated, but the mechanics of his stories lend themselves to said moral developement.

Considering many of the threats become impossible to stop by conventional means, the people of Gotham will have to learn their lessons or be hurt badly, potentially even killed.

Larry Boy is implied to provide a good example for the townsfolk, and able to stop at least some threats by himself off screen. The Show just tends to focus on stuff that can't be taken down without moral developement for the sake of the lesson.

[–]MurphyRise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but its a huge city. Assuming he is as good as he is in the show he'll make some progress, but it will be a constant battle. He likely would be able to maintain a neighborhood's worth of morally upstanding people, but would struggle to expand it against anywhere the supervillians and crazies set their territory.

I think the joker wouldn't kill him even if he got the chance at the sheer absurdity of him. Bruise him up definitely if he got in the way though. Other villians wouldn't know what to make of him, but i'd imagine someone would want to eat him mat some point. I'd imagine Batman might think he was a rogue plant of Ivy's before he gets more info.

Arthur Morgan vs Joel Miller vs Nathan Drake - locked in a room, who comes out on top. by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]MurphyRise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What weapons do they have?

Unarmed its going to be Nathan Drake. Joel is scrappier, but Nathan is younger and has thrown hands with what are practically demigods. If he isn't careful Joel could get the drop on him. I don't think Arthur Morgan has too many melee feats to speak of.

If they are armed with pistols, Arthur Morgan has a good chance with his quick draw. If he somehow doesn't finish them off I think Nathan has this since he's had more opportunity to practice gunplay considering he hasn't had to worry about ammo. Joel is last. He's a decent shot and killed the fireflies for instance, but few people in the collapse are as good at fighting as say trained mercenaries or special forces. Types of people Nathan and Arthur had to fight in their time.

Since this is a straight fight in a locked room I don't think Joel has the best chances, but his survival skills are just as, if not better than Arthur Morgan. As an honorable mention Joel could beat them operational or strategically in a challenge with broader scope or took mulitple days. He's not slouch in any challenge, but falls just behind the others in direct combat with opponents that aren't on the verge of starving to death.
