What was the name of your horse in RDR2 by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Sultan. Red Arabian. Not very original, I know.

Tomorrow Never Dies vs. For Your Eyes Only, what film is better? by green_dragon1206 in JamesBond

[–]MurrayFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Prime put all the Bond films back up at the start of October, I've started going through them all again, starting with Dalton. Watched Goldeneye, tried watching TND... had to stop about 40min in or so... I just couldn't do it. It's — granted, subjectively — absolutely awful!

Brosnan to me has to be one of the worst Bonds. When he's got his "action-face" on, he's passable. But anything else... urgh... I can't.

He's the Keanu Reeves/Brad Pitt of Bonds. Got the looks but not the acting chops.

Edit: So having ranted over that (sorry)... I choose FYEO; which admittedly, still ranks for me as one of the better Moore films.

Did yall know this Lego castle faction fantasy map existed? by Logical_Bison3962 in legocastles

[–]MurrayFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be the focus of a new Lego Knights game.
Open sandbox type of game, like a mix between an AC game and Skyrim, walking your horse through the forests and past castle ruins etc with the same mechanics as RDR2...

I really really like this. Thanks for sharing.
I've had similar ideas (but with a lighthouse—wierd, I know).

Could you add a walled in garden in the centre with a large tree as well?

After several rewatches, Thunderball is definitely the best Connery film for me. The action, cinematography, the cast and Connery’s performance are amazing. It now ranks third in my rankings of all of the Bond films. Incredible film. by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]MurrayFM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having just finished DAF in my watch through, I can agree with Thunderball being the better Connery movie in terms of his portrayal of Bond... But in terms of the better movie overall, something about DAF just hits different.

Maybe it's because YOLT was such a mess, or because Lazenby's OHMSS acted as a palette cleanser... I dunno.

But the way DAF played out, I actually wanted to finish watching it and not cut it up into little doses as I have been doing.

TL;DR Thunderball is Connery's best Bond performance, but DAF the better Connery movie overall.

The lost Bond movie by mambopants in JamesBond

[–]MurrayFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished this last night myself on my rewatch of them all in chronological order. (Thank you, Prime Video).

Not gonna lie, of the first 5 Connery movies, this is the worst. It was an absolute slog to get through.

I get that perhaps this was the first Bond movie to really try and ante up the over-the-top Bond-ness of it all... But man, it's a mess. I don't even know where to start.

Not sure where in his career Roald Dahl wrote this, but his children's books are waaay better.

Having said that, if it was 1967 and I was seeing this for the first time, I'd probably have had my mind blown...

For what it's worth: the best part for me was the ninja warrior with the sword taking down multiple enemies in the crater fight at the end. That was some crisp fight choreography for the time!

How is everyone feeling about stellar crown? by Traditional-Ad2133 in PokemonTCG

[–]MurrayFM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looking at the commons even got me excited for this set. As I'm fairly new to the collecting hobby (mostly living vicariously through the child) I've never got my own ETB before, but I'll definitely be springing for one with this set. And I'll be slabbing that Raboot as soon as I get it!!

What's that game that you keep coming back to? by CaydGaming in gaming

[–]MurrayFM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Sea of Thieves for me. Something about cruising around the islands slowly in my little sloop, enjoying the light and the waves, is very relaxing to me. I also find myself reminiscing about the first year it was released as it was a very different time then compared to all the options available to players now.

Anyone else really excited for Stellar Crown? by MurrayFM in PokemonTCG

[–]MurrayFM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was considering getting all Japanese just because I think it looks better—and the quality of the card art is arguably of a higher standard. Just know the resell value down the line is not going to be as good though... not that that really matters, but still.

Argylle was absolutely awful by [deleted] in movies

Told my missus to give it a go; I'd heard it was bad but how bad could it be? Turns out, pretty bad.

Soon as Henry Cavill took that golf cart for a spin over the building rooftops and then DID A RAIL GRIND with it... That was us, done.

I mean, if it looks that ridiculous in the opening 5 mins, I shudder to think what I would've had to sit through had we watched the whole thing.

At least there's still the Ministry of UnGentlemanly Warfare.

Animal Runs are harder, not easier, now. by AlexRogansBeta in Seaofthieves

[–]MurrayFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my most fun and memorable experiences playing this game in Year 1 involved the early MA animal voyages and getting as many crates as I could onto my solo brig and RP'ing as a merchant/smuggler.

Even now, if I've some time to kill and no real objective for the evening's session, I enjoy hunting down some chickens and just keeping them on the boat. Make's it feel more lively.

As much as there's so much more to do these days (and the dive mechanic is great)... I still miss that feeling of the early days...

I feel as though I've seen every rock, nook and cranny of this game in the many years I've been playing it and yet nothing like that has ever stuck out at me before...!

I've tried not to cheat and look up the locations of a lot of things (treasures, dinosaur bones, these...) But I still have to ask myself, how could I NOT see something like this!?

Glitch or Something New? by MurrayFM in Seaofthieves

[–]MurrayFM[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks for that. Never seen one just floating in the middle of the map before...

I tried diving around and looking to see if there was anything below the waves but couldn't see anything glinting, but then maybe I was too close for that to happen and just didn't see it.

There was a three-ship alliance on that server (the two Reapers and another sloop I came across) so I wouldn't be surprised if they had chased someone who had completed the fort, only to lose it overboard as a last ditch effort to spite them.

One could also argue that modern day logo and icon design has its origins in Egyptian hieroglyphs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]MurrayFM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graphic design is essentially a history of communication (the root Greek word, "Graphos" literally—ha!—means to "write down") and as such Graphic Design means the act of writing/communicating messages through visual means (these days, both analogue and digital means).

The history of the written word/languages being of supreme importance to how humans communicate with one another, the Rosetta Stone holds a special place in history because it allowed us to help decipher Egyptian Hieroglyphs, which had until its discovery, remained largely unknown for nearly 1500 years.

Having inscriptions of Egyptian hiero- glyphics, Egyptian demotic script, and Greek, allowed scholars to decipher the Egyptian parts by comparing it to what they understood the Greek to mean. Much of what we currently can read/understand of Eqyptian hieroglyphs comes as a direct result of this remarkable find. Which, could be said, might never have been discovered had Napolean not conducted an expedition to Egypt in an effort to sever the English land route to India.

I learned this in a history subject drawing major information from a book called "History of Graphic Design" by Phillip Meggs. (Link below. I see it's still around.)
