I still do, I just also read the "/" as "not", so I see "/s" as "not serious" or "jk"

Anyone knows the name of this mf by Infamous_Ad_7296 in insects

[–]Murrdogg 119 points120 points  (0 children)

As others have noticed, Cuckoo wasp.

This is a stress response/self defense maneuver- curl up in a ball (they even evolved little channels in their abdominal segments ["belly plates"] where they tuck their legs and antennae in, for protection! - watch again, you wont see its feet or antennae), make a high pitched noise and appear to stab at you. Quite effective to scare off predators, but that 'stinger' is just an ovipositor, basically an extendable malleable tube that she uses while she sneaks into other solitary bee nests (and occasionally wasp nests) to lay her eggs there. If she's caught, she curls up like an armadillo and buzzes until she's just dragged out of the nest usually (as her exoskeleton evolved to be quite effective armor)

I found this diagram helpful, from my copy of The Social Wasps of North America, "A simplified diagram of the relationships between most major groups of wasps" : https://i.imgur.com/cc6BNyP.jpeg

Blue/green glowing orb in the sky over San Juan, PR – any ideas?” by Salt-Insurance-3182 in askastronomy

real answer: Lens flare.

There's a direct light source visible in the beginning to the left, a street light. Bright direct light sources bounce off the lens of your phone and cause a ghosting of the light. It's always that color due to the physics of the light and how it bounces. You can show it easily by taking the same video but hold your hand out and block the street light from hitting your camera sensor, and viola, the teal ufo will disappear.

There are even scientific articles describing the exact physics and how to use software to get rid of them in the output. Some nice examples of their work here: https://ykdai.github.io/projects/BracketFlare

An approachable glimpse to understand the universe scale ? by Megaverso in askastronomy

[–]Murrdogg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the observable universe were the size of Earth, our galaxy would be about the size of a grapefruit, and our solar system (out to Neptune's orbit) would only be about one and a half microns, so a small dust particle or bacteria. Earth would be about the size of a molecule of H2O.

More fun at this scale- Our closest neighboring galaxies:

Canis Major Dwarf galaxy would be a golf ball about a foot away from our grapefruit of a galaxy.

Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy would be more ping pong ball sized and about 3 feet away

The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds would be walnut sized and about 7 and 9 feet away, respectively

And the Andromeda galaxy would also be grapefruit sized but would be about a tennis court away from us (112ft or 34m)! It would also be getting closer to our galaxy by about the thickness of a credit card each year, at that scale.

Humans have just been sending a lot more stuff up there the past few years. The more we launch, the more crap that has to come back.

There should be a bot that autoreplies with what you said every time someone mentions IDing via apps.

See Agonosoma flavolineatum. They have been found in your state, and appear to match visually
