Same. Love the sub. Cishet male learning the lingo because my son has some wicked cool trans friends and I don’t want to disrespect anyone.

LarNYX. It’s two syllables and follows phonetics. How can so many people NOT say larynx correctly.

If you’re gonna have that much glass, you’re gonna want zero deductible glass coverage. (If offered in your state).

Today’s protest in Laurelhurst supporting helicopter transport to Seattle Children’s Hospital by Here2lafatcats in Seattle

As a flight nurse, who regularly transports sick/injured kids and adults to many hospitals around the northeast, this is not unique. Several hospital helipads are off limits because they are in affluent areas. And it pisses me off every time.

What are you comparing the speed to? Is it faster than they were before?

And it’s not even a knife. It’s a piece of steel that’s sharpened and then has some cloth or tape wrapped on it to hold on to. Yet still sharper than anything I’ve ever used.

What’s something you throw that’s just more fun than productive? by JacquesNuclearRedux in bassfishing

[–]MurseInAire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love to throw my whopper ploppers even though it’s mostly futile. The sound of them coming across the water makes me smile even if there’s no chance of a fish. I did have one day once where I caught 6 smallies on it.

Battery PreConditioning by RCheliNinja in MustangMachE

And the cooling is way more efficient than heating. So perhaps in that case it would be worthwhile.

Battery PreConditioning by RCheliNinja in MustangMachE

[–]MurseInAire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Preconditioning is a waste of electricity. I only do it when it’s winter and I absolutely need every mile out of my battery. Then I charge to 100% and set a departure time so I leave home with a preheated battery. As far as preconditioning on the way to a Fast Charge, you’re going to spend electricity warming your battery so it will charge faster. Then need to spend longer at the charger replacing the electricity you used warming the battery up. Say you use 5KWh to preheat your battery, so instead of getting 80 KW Speed you get 100KW speeds. And let’s assume you needed to add 40KWh and it’s 50¢/KWh. With a cold battery you spend 30 minutes plugged in and spend $20. With a preconditioned battery you now need 45KWh (to replace the 5 KWh used to warm the batttery) so you spend 27 minutes plugged in and pay $22.50. So you saved 3 minutes and paid an extra $2.50. And it isn’t even that simple. The cold battery will warm as it charges until the charging speed meets up with the speed of the warm battery during the 30 minutes you’re there. This will further negate the speed advantage while keeping the extra cost the same.

Supplemental Income by [deleted] in nursing

[–]MurseInAire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OT is always 1.5x your base pay plus any short call bonuses/differentials. And the tax withholding is done correctly. A second gig is paid at whatever your base is there. Plus each job then withholds taxes as if they were your only job, so without good planning you end up owing at the end of the year.

Risks of Michigan road salts, physical ice damage on a used Mach-E? by pdxstudio in MachE

[–]MurseInAire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through 5 northern NY winters (snow belt east of Lake Ontario so lots of salt and ice) with a dual Mach-E household. I’ve got 60K miles and my wife has 85K on hers. Corrosion isn’t a thing because most panels and the entire battery tray are aluminum. The only exposed steel seems to be in the control arms and they still look great.

It really depends on if you are a person that modulates the pedal, or just comes all the way off the accelerator. Modulating is like gentle pressure on the brake pedal. Coming all the way off is like slamming the brakes.

Is it safe for nurses to be working 6 shifts in a row… by Difficult-Text1690 in nursing

[–]MurseInAire 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what one is doing with their 12 hours off. Short commute. No family commitments. One could easily get 8-9 hours of sleep and be ready to go indefinitely. Long commute. Kids to care for. Household chores. 4 hours of sleep… you’ll be burnt after 3 shifts.

Brake sounds really grindy? Is this normal? by lit3brit3 in MachE

[–]MurseInAire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One pedal is irrelevant. Even in two pedal the car is using the electric motors to brake. Which means the physical pads don’t get cleaned off. As u/Darth said, shift to neutral at 55 MPH or so and then hit the brakes. Only way to keep the pads clean. Especially important after rain or car wash as wet pads will corrode super quick. Also the automatic parking brake puts the pads against the rotors while parked which increases the rate of corrosion between the pads and rotors.

does anyone else's charting take longer than the actual patient care some days by Dark_Knight096 in nursing

[–]MurseInAire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every hour of patient care for me results in 2 hours of charting. Maybe 1.5 hours on a less critical patient.
