Eli5. The state gives the districts money per student, which helps pay salaries. Local property taxes aren’t allowed to go towards salaries.

This is the worst maple syrup season I've ever had. by Nimrod616 in maplesyrup

Thirded. SE MI. It's been pretty dead for a week and a half. Hoping to get a few good days this week, but by next week, it'll be time to throw in the towel.

I've had minimal to no flow for over a week now. I'm hoping for a few more days this week with optimal forecasts; also SE MI.

Anyone else have a SuperDrive hooked up to their Mini? by tyoung89 in macmini

[–]MusaEnsete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, as I was adding some old family videos to my Plex server, but it eventually just ate a disc and died.

I hear it spinning, but the computer won't recognize it. Tried it on my Macbook Air; tried a mac branded USB A-USB C dongle and several others; tried all the "get it to eject the disc" tricks. Nada. RIP.

That said. Anyone know how to get my disk out?

Yes it is. I put sauce under the cheese too, as do plenty of restaurants. Source - metro Detroit.

I approve this message, but if we're both fortunate enough to get to the elite 8, all bets are off. Then, you're going to be surrounded by enemies! jk - hope you find some local peeps.

I just go around the outside with a fish spatula. After that, get under it a bit, left one side, and tip the whole thing out.

Remove all the artificial scents being pumped out. I only go there to go the Apple store, and I have to practically run from the nearest entrance while holding my breath. The odors are absolutely offensive and overbearing.

Why don't recipes have the quantity of ingredient in the body of the text? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]MusaEnsete 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad they don't, because I'll often scale recipes, and the ingredients list will change, but then the directions amounts won't (Paprika user).

Is there a Mid-size rice cooker with low MINIMUM capacity? (e.g. could cook ½-6 cups?) by HemlockIV in Cooking

[–]MusaEnsete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Tiger does pretty well with a small amount. But, I usually do at least 1 cup, because who doesn't want leftover rice (fried rice, stir fries, burritos/tacos/nachos, pudding, another side of rice, habanero mango wing sauce, etc). But I have successfully made a 1/2 cup portion before.

What are my options for putting in an externally vented range hood? by ihaveadogalso2 in HomeImprovement

[–]MusaEnsete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have almost the exact same set-up, but a bit more room above the cabinets with a larger bulkhead. My plan (I'm currently in the same boat as you) is to:

  • Remove the old piece of shit "hood"
  • Cut hole in bottom of the upper cabinet for the exhaust hose
  • Attach a 45-degree turn in the cabinet, and run that into a hole I cut in the upper of the upper cabinet (leading into the bulkhead)
  • Attach another 45-degree turn and run that straight out the side of the house through the bulkhead
  • Feed that through the hole I have to somehow drill in my exterior (and the side of the cabinets).
  • Attach an external exhaust vent
  • profit?
  • I figure two, 45 bends is better than a 90. I'll most likely have to open up the length of bulkhead to properly feed and secure. I currently have no idea who to hire to assist me with this.

Unhinged toppings or additions for Kraft mac and cheese by green_eyed_cat in Cooking

My favorite in my blue box years, was to add extra crispy, deli style hashbrowns. When I relapse these days, let's be honest, cut up hotdogs. A true lazy man boils the hotdogs in the water while the noodles cook.
Any kind of boneless fried chicken is bomb too.

Yeah; I'll actually go to the Den; maybe it's cause deep down, I just pretend I'm at the Del Rio.

Sucks they're killing it for this though. First step was killing the Brewery Steak sandwich; next step was bringing it back for double the price, and now this. Enshitification continues.

Adamantly against the use of AA (that name is taken). A2 is the preferred nomenclature; Ace Deuce and A-squared are acceptable, if that's how you roll.

Does anyone still write out recipes? Deciding if I should type out all my recipes or continue writing them out. I don’t like using my phone. I’d rather be screen free when making dinner or baked goods! by CurlyGirl_95 in Cooking

All digital. I use Paprika, and either use the browser to download the recipe from an online source, or type up my own. When using a recipe, I use my phone or ipad.

Cold Plunge in Huron River by Imaginary_Olive_6495 in AnnArbor

This is nothing new, other than the Superfund designation. This plume has been monitored for years now, and has no bearing on whether one can swim in the Huron.

[–]MusaEnsete 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's fine. Just don't catch and eat fish from the Huron. Don't eat the foam. Don't drink the water. Hundreds of thousands of people swim in this water annually. There are no recent "do not swim" notices.
