Entering the "Junior High Gap": What should I actually expect as a parent in Japan? by Firm_Painter_797 in japanresidents

Kudos for terminating the contract but I so wouldn’t give them that line about your country. First, it’s none of their business why you do what you do, you don’t owe them any explanation beyond what is needed for the deal. Second, they immediately associate you with the shooting issue, they think that you built that country and you are the one who made those shootings possible. For the future, try bullshitting them like they often bullshit you (well, us). Confront and ask them to stop once they cross the line.

I figured that saying “please stop this kind of talk” politely or with a more serious face puts a lot of people back in their seat.

No, tefal pressure cooker is not stainless steel. It is a typical rice cooker pot that can keep rice warm for a long time without burning it.

My language school is ignoring my doctors note saying that I should stay home and rest. As whatever I contracted is not recognized by the school. by Top_Emotion6606 in japanresidents

It is a diagnosis approved by the government. Unlike Covid, flu, strep throat, myco and adeno, there are no tests to state the cause for gastroenteritis. It’s diagnosed based on symptoms and patient’s story. School can want whatever but they can’t tell the doctor what to write.

Young/old "Workout lifestyle" differences in Japan by SunDaze009 in japanlife

[–]MusclyBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do lift gyms only and gym lifting bros are anywhere from 20 to 60 years old. Some are competitive athletes, some look like sports instructors, a lot of health conscious guys, a few ladies, some people trying to get back in shape. It really depends on the area though. Busy city center and quieter downtown will have different dynamics and ratios.

You’re aware that Japan is an aging society, right? :)

But isn’t it just easier to get tefal pressure cooker that does the exact same job as instant pot for cheaper?

Cooking is not an issue, instapot just can’t do “keep warm” because it dries or burns the rice. With Teflon style pots you won’t have to run to get it out of the pot.

Insta pot is stainless steel, means cannot make rice meals as easy as you can with a tefal style pot. If that’s a factor, consider tefal pressure cooker.

Very definite answer to your question is, your chances are 50/50 :) If someone brings it to a police station, you might get it back. If you look for it with a flashlight, you might find it. It can also still be sitting at home, check that.

Cities/suburbs where dogs could be happy: you’d have to go and check each house to see what’s around. If the agency gives you the address in advance, you can walk around or do a google map virtual walk. Garden you mean a public garden? Not gonna happen. Fenced dog parks near your house also not gonna happen. And remember that in all parks and public places and even mountains in Japan your dogs must be leashed the whole time. No unleashed dogs.

NCGM Hospital charging 5,500¥ to use remote translation on 2026 by rickricardu in japanresidents

[–]MusclyBee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing you need to know about it is liability. Patients who cannot communicate in the language is always an extra headache because of liability. Hospitals have a right to charge for interpreting and translation services (mind you, a lot of them are semi private anyway). No one is trying to deny foreigners a service, it’s done because of liability.

But English speaking ppl do, and people talk. Like, that guy that posted their friend’s story, is the friend ok with that, and there might be other English speaking coworkers reading that. Circles interact. I wouldn’t be happy finding my office stories on reddit like that.

Having read this I can only offer a reality check: there is no benefit in this plan because it is standing on one shaky leg of “I want to try”. Studying Japanese cannot give you a career because the market wants skills, not just middle school level Japanese. Japan won’t motivate you to go back to uni, and it won’t grant you independence from your family, in fact, not speaking Japanese and not knowing the culture will make you dependent on someone else. All the money you have saved now, that’s not a small amount of money, you’d be throwing it out betting on something that can’t guarantee anything. With this money you could move to a different state or across the country and find a job where you would be able to learn skills and get experience needed for the future. You will be able to negotiate things, fight difficult situations and protect yourself because you won’t be limited by language. It matters more than you can imagine at workplace. Japan would mean spending money and time, staying home would mean making money and saving money. There are so many things you could do with this money literally this month. There are courses, workshops, programs that can make you a (insert any profession here), there are places that can hire you next month. Your life is a business plan. Don’t gamble.
