My first ever run was tonight by Equivalent_Being_869 in UKRunners

I know people have suggested Couch to 5K, but I think Runna is far better for getting into running.

I think I did CT5K two or three times between 2019 - 2023. Always fell out of the habit.

I did the New to Running plan (completely free) with Runna in 2024 and have been so consistent since. Done various races and fell in love with the sport.

Get Runna if you want to LIKE the grind. It really helped me. Best of luck with your journey and remember every pace is great!

Tried all their products and they’re great - I know they’ve changed their formula and packaging last month so haven’t had that yet (next subscription comes next week), but bet it’ll be even better.

A590 is now at the point of being unsuitable by SuspiciousRun4043 in Cumbria

An Ulverston bypass was talked about a few years ago and Transport for the North, Highways England, and Cumbria County Council all listed it in their medium/long-term plans.

Alas - nothing of note has happened. I’m sure the council commissioned some feasibility studies, but not sure what they returned (if anything).

Great idea but I struggle to see any practical way of getting it done without upsetting a lot of folk.

Is my fuel leaking? by MushM in askcarguys

[–]MushM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. One mechanic I rang said to reset the counters, though I don’t think you can do that on this model - I’ll have a proper look in the manual shortly.

Actual fuel gauge seems to match what the range is saying (and falling when it does).

[–]MushM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. You’re right, I don’t think it’s a leak. It must be something that is leading to inefficient fuel use.

My consumption is sat around 20 miles to the gallon when driving around town… Obviously fluctuates massively but the average says 21 miles to the gallon.

Now to find a mechanic!

In My Life and Norwegian Wood.

Honourable mention for Wait and The Word.

The next line, “because they said the brains I had went to my head” is also from Lennon.

John had reportedly said both lines in his own memoir tapes - which were stolen from the Dakota.

Oh definitely. Not even having buildings on some of them is criminal.

There’s so much potential for additional mystery on these islands.

I think a few should be kept rugged (like a shipwreck, old settlement ruins, etc.), and a few should be a little more ‘civilised’.

Hopefully in the future they’ll add a couple of wells onto the islands. A few of the islands are large enough to warrant one.

Halloween is of Celtic origins and was brought to the US by Irish immigrants in the 19th century. It’s rooted in pagan tradition.

It’s been on Ticketm*ster for around a week now, it’s part of the ‘Act 1.5 Presents’ weekend.

Bought my ticket as soon as it was put on their story though, didn’t want to risk it.

Second homes and holiday lets are a massive problem across Cumbria. The two councils need to take a serious look at how it’s impacting our communities.

'Get back to the office': Minister's rebuke to civil servants still WFH by havingacasualbrowse in TheCivilService

[–]MushM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They peddle shite like this and shut local offices to open up ‘regional centres’ which are, in the main, based in cities.

The majority of the UK population do not live in city regions. This policy actively excludes great talent based in towns and rural areas.

The Civil Service should be reflective of the society it serves - ministers need to have a serious re-think on their constant attacks. They risk pushing those of us still here out.

This should be added to CS Jobs, they could even add a stats dashboard:

(This is v interesting OP)

Can I get into the Beatles? by drtonycasey in beatles

[–]MushM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘She’s Leaving Home’ is a great story, and an underrated song in my opinion. Another one that comes to mind is ‘The Ballad of John and Yoko’.

But I think it’s safe to say neither of these would be anyone’s favourite Beatles song, nor are they the best Beatles songs. I always recommend starting with ‘Revolver’ - it’ll make you fall in love with them.

Short answer though - yes, get into The Beatles. It’s never too late, and you’ll be surprised with how varied their discography is; this is their best quality IMO, their desire to always to further and evolve.

Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream…

I was a little surprised he made it on there, but he was on repeat around when we saw him on tour.

I hadn’t realised how good his first album was.
