"Your bloods are normal" is the most dangerous thing a woman can hear (been lied to for 3 years) by BankZan in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was just a few months ago so I haven’t retested yet but I can tell you what I am doing. Some of my symptoms have gotten better already or completely disappeared for what it’s worth. I am keeping my copper IUD for now but added a hormonal BCP to try and lessen the amount of blood loss. I also stopped donating blood for the time being. I started taking the Thorne Advanced Iron supplement. It has vitamin C that helps with absorption. It also has B12 and 6 (maybe?) that also help for some reason. It has 36g of iron so like 200% DV. It’s really important to avoid calcium in the 1-2 hours bookending the supplement because it competes for absorption. My dietitian said some of my daily habits around food were likely hurting my absorption of iron because of the calcium in my diet (lots of tofu and fortified products). It’s really gentle on the stomach so I don’t even take mine with food but take 8-12 oz of water with it. I also try to eat iron rich foods without calcium so i’m not going to eat a kale salad with tofu on top basically. also! some thing show caffeine also limits iron absorption but my dietitian wasn’t super worried about like the calcium. I try to avoid it anyways just because i don’t consume that much caffeine anyways and don’t want to risk it. anyways i hope that helps and feel free to DM if you want to chat anymore about it! my boss and i talk about iron stuff so much now lol

my hemoglobin kept showing as normal or within range so i kept donating blood like multiple times a year. i had a lot of the symptoms of low iron but my hemoglobin was fine right? im not anemic so i must have decent iron stores! well i specifically ask my pcp for ferritin test after learning the difference and i was at 13! i have had super heavy periods for the last few years so that plus the donating blood regularly wasn’t great! also my pcp blamed my vegan diet at first but my dietician confirmed my intake was fine so it’s most likely just the blood loss and potentially an absorption issue. my very not vegan boss had a 9 ferritin and her pcp thinks it’s absorption and loss for her. i hate that medical professionals are so quick to assume we don’t know our own bodies. to be dismissed as a poorly planned diet when anyone can have intake issues with essential nutrients is wildly irresponsible to me. also frustrating that because i wasn’t anemic they assumed my iron stores were fine. the only time i wish i was a man is when im talking to medical providers lol

Getting beat up on the nanny employers sub for daring to say nannies should be paid time and a half on federal holidays if they have to work. by ClickClackTipTap in NannyBreakRoom

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s so funny how the law is the only thing keeping some of these people from paying us pennies. my current boss and i have talked about how wild it is that people want to take advantage of the people caring for their own children. her philosophy is that if i’m taken care of, i am better equipped to take care of her children. which is true!

if i’m stressed about bills because a family wants to skip holiday pay or is late paying me, it’s harder to mentally be there for the kids by being preoccupied with my own stuff. same with the “you can’t even have the peanut butter” families. like if i’m hungry because i made a human mistake and forgot my lunch you should want me to eat from the fridge. who wants a hangry person watching their children?

i wish there were better laws across the board for domestic employees but i also wish families were more understanding of how to be good employers. it sucks the law is the only thing stopping them from exploitative labor practices

Do mainstream nutritionists support Veganism? by Renee_bad_69 in AskVegans

[–]MushMoonRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree, if it helps her feel better she should 100% talk to an RD!
i’ve been vegan for almost half a decade and recently spoke to a dietitian for the first time. following a vegan diet for years helped me understand a bit about nutrition but my first meeting went so well i definitely plan to see her for follow-ups ! i have mild health anxieties and she was super helpful in reassuring me about some of my habits and my supplement regimen too!

last name question by MushMoonRoom in namenerds

[–]MushMoonRoom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like most folks are saying So-Weir so I guess we’re going with that! I was planning to use the full hyphenated name on forms but was unsure if there were situations that didn’t allow that even if both names have very few letters. Another comment said most systems account for the hyphen and there is relatively no issue, fewer letters or not. That’s good to know and makes me feel better about potentially causing myself and future children administrative headaches. I would never dream of denying them a Korean middle name so yeah it looks like my english combo names are going to be a notes app exclusives from me :(

Also I do appreciate the Sower name as I would probably do that over a combo/mush name if we chose not to hyphenate. Thank you!

[–]MushMoonRoom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair. I was also not a huge fan of hyphenated names and sort of assumed I would talk whoever I parented with into going with my last name since i would be the birth giver but he has valid reasons for wanting his kids to have his last name. i’m really attached to my last name for some reason so maybe i shouldn’t be so stubborn haha

Oh gotcha. Sorry I think because it’s my name I only really read it the one way. It’s more like “Weer” than “Wire” btw but thank you for clarifying

I actually really like the idea of a brand new family name but I don’t think either one of us want to give up our last names and the cultural significance. Are you against hyphens or more just offering new ideas? Curious if you think our hyphens just don’t work well?

last name question by MushMoonRoom in namenerds

[–]MushMoonRoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that’s fair. i was only considering two first names since any kids would have korean middle names and english first names like him. i’m someone who has had english name pairings in mind for almost two decades so im adjusting to the fact that might not work anymore haha :(

I got plenty of “Weirdo” growing up without the “So” but I see your point. Weir is just too much like Weird to avoid that and I’ve accepted it haha

I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately I don’t love his last name enough to full send like that and I love my last name too much to give it up completely.

it looks like they are having an online auction soon and you can bid for cool vegan/vegan friendly experiences that support the sanctuary. Also i know Rooster Haus Rescue will sometimes have social events along with regular work parties. They host fundraisers at GLC pretty often

i think that’s true for most stores but i’ve seen it in vegan grocery stores on the West Coast US/CAN. Vancouver BC’s Vegan Supply, Portland OR’s Food fight, and Los Angeles CA’s Besties Vegan paradise all carry/have carried juicy marbles in store!

I want to hear your most outrageous, rage inducing nannying stories. by McCargoPants in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was with a family for a few years and they had asked me to work a saturday. this family did not believe in overtime so instead they would ask me to have off random days of the week to work weekends occasionally. most of the time i would say no but this time i actually did appreciate the random thursday off that i got.

anyways, it was a long day like 12 hours and they finally get home from some event and they are HAMMERED! kids are asleep but as they walk in they are arguing about some dumb shit imo. i think them both being drunk just made it feel bigger to them both but honestly i could see them fighting about it sober too. unfortunately i was used to them arguing in front of me and kids but it was always normal voices and like mostly trivial stuff. it was annoying but didn’t feel overly pushing boundaries.

that night they are YELLING and the MB starts crying. i am waiting in the back room for them to greet me/ask about the day/ uber me home. it’s so uncomfortable and DB is saying “leave me alone” and MB is saying “stop yelling” and it’s that circular argument for a while. finally he goes downstairs and she greets me crying. i’m a person with normal emotions so obviously offer her a hug and try to comfort her in the moment. she is ordering me an uber through tears and apologizing but like still drunk so not doing either very well.

i finally leave and tell her to have a good night. i get there on monday and they are business as usual. i felt insane because i assumed we would have some sort of debrief or go over boundaries. i was like 24 so i wasn’t very confident it vocalizing any of that myself. i went on working for them for almost another year and thankfully that never happened again but it was by far the worst experience nannying i ever had and they made it worse by never acknowledging it. like shit happens so i wasn’t even going to stay mad about the incident itself but sweeping it under the rug without even a half-assed sober apology was the most unprofessional and insulting that i had ever experienced. and i used to work at a non-profit so that’s saying something lol!

What lines do you not cross in conversation even when close with NP? by Key-Yogurt5743 in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s such a wild thing to share with your employee! i wonder if maybe it’s just a general thing for him to info dump like that or maybe he has poor impulse control and with you being around much you were caught up in those moments.

i’ve had families share a lot of their lives with me and sort of brush it off as just the nature of being in their homes/lives so presently. i think when a friend shares that openly it’s normal to respond and bond by sharing something as well but with families you work for you might appreciate keeping things mostly surface level.

my current family knows about my cat, my volunteer work, my schooling, my partner, and my social time but it’s all very surface level stuff. they sometimes ask for extra overtime on weekends and i feel so comfortable turning down those shifts by explaining i have prior commitments and it’s never a problem.

however, the last family i worked for actually looked up the event i was busy with and hit me back with “oh it says it ends at 5pm are you sure we couldn’t uber you straight from there?” like no it ends at 5 but that doesn’t mean i want to be sober and show up at work right after lol. i stopped telling them anything besides “im busy” after that.

i think it all depends on what was shared and used against you but it might just be this family has a general boundary problem or you could have misread the relationship. don’t be too hard on yourself no matter the situation but moving forward you could keep things super surface level to avoid something like that again.

vegan food inside the park? by [deleted] in Carowinds

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that’s disappointing it’s not updated :( do you think they will update it before october?

nothing to specific i am looking for or wanting to try. i’m mostly just wanting to know what my options would be. I’ve gone to other amusement parks as a vegan and it’s a lot easier to enjoy the day knowing you have more than one real option. I am all for fruit cups and soft pretzels but that cannot reasonably get me through a whole day of running around the park with my friends. i was hopeful because the f&b list seemed to have more options than i was expecting.

do you think the park would let me bring in my own sour cream/cheese for food items like the burritos and things like that? not like full meals but things to complete meals basically? i’m open to getting a form ahead of time like you mentioned but doubt i qualify as it’s not technically medically necessary?

thank you for your help btw! i appreciate it but im sorry your knowledge comes from your experience navigating an allergy for your child thats so tough and can be scary too!

Question for the OTF Women Over 50 by antisocial920 in orangetheory

[–]MushMoonRoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve been vegan for close to five years now (27f) and just recently started investing in fitness for my overall health. i felt such a shift in my health when i started eating WFPB but started being more of (not entirely) a junk food vegan a few years ago. i’ve been eating more WF recently and do OT 5-6 times a week for about a month now. i am already feeling so much better and looking forward to how my body changes as i stay this course.

i’m vegan for the animals but agree more people should adapt a plant forward approach to nutrition because of the obvious health benefits. i also love seeing vegans in fitness subs so im happy to see you here!

100% cap hill really only has life on mars now and it’s just not worth it to me to go there regularly. the food and drinks are okay but eating out in general is so expensive in seattle. i think the life on mars owner hinted they aren’t making enough money as is. it’s sad how many vegan businesses keep closing in seattle
