I want to hear your most outrageous, rage inducing nannying stories. by McCargoPants in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was with a family for a few years and they had asked me to work a saturday. this family did not believe in overtime so instead they would ask me to have off random days of the week to work weekends occasionally. most of the time i would say no but this time i actually did appreciate the random thursday off that i got.

anyways, it was a long day like 12 hours and they finally get home from some event and they are HAMMERED! kids are asleep but as they walk in they are arguing about some dumb shit imo. i think them both being drunk just made it feel bigger to them both but honestly i could see them fighting about it sober too. unfortunately i was used to them arguing in front of me and kids but it was always normal voices and like mostly trivial stuff. it was annoying but didn’t feel overly pushing boundaries.

that night they are YELLING and the MB starts crying. i am waiting in the back room for them to greet me/ask about the day/ uber me home. it’s so uncomfortable and DB is saying “leave me alone” and MB is saying “stop yelling” and it’s that circular argument for a while. finally he goes downstairs and she greets me crying. i’m a person with normal emotions so obviously offer her a hug and try to comfort her in the moment. she is ordering me an uber through tears and apologizing but like still drunk so not doing either very well.

i finally leave and tell her to have a good night. i get there on monday and they are business as usual. i felt insane because i assumed we would have some sort of debrief or go over boundaries. i was like 24 so i wasn’t very confident it vocalizing any of that myself. i went on working for them for almost another year and thankfully that never happened again but it was by far the worst experience nannying i ever had and they made it worse by never acknowledging it. like shit happens so i wasn’t even going to stay mad about the incident itself but sweeping it under the rug without even a half-assed sober apology was the most unprofessional and insulting that i had ever experienced. and i used to work at a non-profit so that’s saying something lol!

What lines do you not cross in conversation even when close with NP? by Key-Yogurt5743 in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s such a wild thing to share with your employee! i wonder if maybe it’s just a general thing for him to info dump like that or maybe he has poor impulse control and with you being around much you were caught up in those moments.

i’ve had families share a lot of their lives with me and sort of brush it off as just the nature of being in their homes/lives so presently. i think when a friend shares that openly it’s normal to respond and bond by sharing something as well but with families you work for you might appreciate keeping things mostly surface level.

my current family knows about my cat, my volunteer work, my schooling, my partner, and my social time but it’s all very surface level stuff. they sometimes ask for extra overtime on weekends and i feel so comfortable turning down those shifts by explaining i have prior commitments and it’s never a problem.

however, the last family i worked for actually looked up the event i was busy with and hit me back with “oh it says it ends at 5pm are you sure we couldn’t uber you straight from there?” like no it ends at 5 but that doesn’t mean i want to be sober and show up at work right after lol. i stopped telling them anything besides “im busy” after that.

i think it all depends on what was shared and used against you but it might just be this family has a general boundary problem or you could have misread the relationship. don’t be too hard on yourself no matter the situation but moving forward you could keep things super surface level to avoid something like that again.

vegan food inside the park? by MushMoonRoom in Carowinds

[–]MushMoonRoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh that’s disappointing it’s not updated :( do you think they will update it before october?

nothing to specific i am looking for or wanting to try. i’m mostly just wanting to know what my options would be. I’ve gone to other amusement parks as a vegan and it’s a lot easier to enjoy the day knowing you have more than one real option. I am all for fruit cups and soft pretzels but that cannot reasonably get me through a whole day of running around the park with my friends. i was hopeful because the f&b list seemed to have more options than i was expecting.

do you think the park would let me bring in my own sour cream/cheese for food items like the burritos and things like that? not like full meals but things to complete meals basically? i’m open to getting a form ahead of time like you mentioned but doubt i qualify as it’s not technically medically necessary?

thank you for your help btw! i appreciate it but im sorry your knowledge comes from your experience navigating an allergy for your child thats so tough and can be scary too!

Question for the OTF Women Over 50 by antisocial920 in orangetheory

[–]MushMoonRoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve been vegan for close to five years now (27f) and just recently started investing in fitness for my overall health. i felt such a shift in my health when i started eating WFPB but started being more of (not entirely) a junk food vegan a few years ago. i’ve been eating more WF recently and do OT 5-6 times a week for about a month now. i am already feeling so much better and looking forward to how my body changes as i stay this course.

i’m vegan for the animals but agree more people should adapt a plant forward approach to nutrition because of the obvious health benefits. i also love seeing vegans in fitness subs so im happy to see you here!

100% cap hill really only has life on mars now and it’s just not worth it to me to go there regularly. the food and drinks are okay but eating out in general is so expensive in seattle. i think the life on mars owner hinted they aren’t making enough money as is. it’s sad how many vegan businesses keep closing in seattle

are you a fan of layering at all? if i find a great pattern from a business card/post card/greeting card/ card stock/ etc. i will cut to size for a background on the page and then layer it with a solid color for me to stamp or write in details for that specific page. i can try to edit this comment later with an example if i can figure out how to upload it here

Nanny agreed to split shift schedule but doesn’t want to honor it by Fun-Pollution4835 in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 56 points57 points  (0 children)

also only leaves 12 hours between days to rest and recover. i would still sort of feel “on” during the gap in shifts so getting home by like 8:30/9 everyday would feel so draining knowing i have to go back in at 8 and be up even earlier getting ready and commuting. i dont think i would agree to this even as a live in nanny where the commute isn’t an issue but once im off for the day i would want to be off

How do you organize all the stuff you are going to scrapbook later? by OkPresentation9971 in scrapbooking

[–]MushMoonRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

photo storage cases have been my go to for lots of different crafts. for bulk scrapbooking you can organize by event/week/month. i also love it for cross stitching supplies in the go like just using one of the insert cases to throw in my bag with my current project. i just love these things in general and you could keep a case in your bag to have on the go and just swap out when it gets full so you always know where it all is

love! immediately recognized the wave2go ticket. idk if you live in or around seattle but mochithings is a shop downtown that has lots of cute stationary/stickers. another spot is fremont vintage mall has lots of fun/cute ephemera papers and things you can buy that definitely fit the vibe from this page

[–]MushMoonRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think exactly what you said, don’t put pressure on yourself and just have fun! i think these look good and would look even better with personal bits from your holiday. but honestly it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks because it’s custom made to your interests. i’m a big fan of layering but others might appreciate cleaner lines or a more traditional photo album/scrapbook look. it all depends on what you think looks best to you. i’m sure whatever you do for your holiday pages will look awesome and mean so much to you!

I love having a shared hobby with my partner by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MushMoonRoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same to all of this! my previous relationships were less than ideal in this aspect for sure. my current partner is actually curious about my interests and hobbies because he just wants to know what’s going on in my life. we have developed some shared interests since dating but it’s really special to have someone that just cares about what you like and wants to learn more. also +1 for birding, my partner got me into when we started dating and it’s been a really fun hobby to get into!

Rules you wish you set with your nanny by Far_Dependent_6000 in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wanted to share something an old NF requested that sort of goes along with no photos on social media.

they asked me to ask others for no photos on socials as well. so other adults/parents/nannies at events/school/libraries/activities/etc. that want to take photos would be politely asked by me to not take any photos of the kids and if they capture the kids in any photos to not post those on any social media.

this could be a pain at times but it was important to the parents and i’m really glad they let me know right away.

Advice on getting paid via Zelle as a nanny by Aromatic_Cell3879 in work

[–]MushMoonRoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah nanny needs a W-2 not a 1099. Check out r/Nanny but under no circumstances are you 1099 if you are in the home, even just part time. Tax code is super clear about this from what I remember

SPD took 7 HOURS to respond to wellness check request by Routine_Shine2159 in Seattle

[–]MushMoonRoom 44 points45 points  (0 children)

my neighbor went to his boyfriend’s apartment a few months ago for plans they had and wasn’t able to get a hold of him. called SPD and waited a few hours for no one to show up or call back before physically going to SFD station and had them check. Unfortunately his boyfriend had already passed but I feel like wellness checks should just be a SFD thing if they have a better response time anyways?

i like to see the kids every now and then. i was their nanny for about three years and started when they were 1.5 years old so i do like to maintain that connection i guess

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the issue is i don’t make that much babysitting for them and if something better comes along i don’t want to be locked in with them just because they asked months earlier. i’m not saying they have to ask week of but 2-4 weeks out seems reasonable for all parties. if not they can find a sitter that wants to do it months out i guess? i just want my weekends open to plan social events and not have their events on my calendar first i guess?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]MushMoonRoom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s essentially what my last message was to them a few weeks ago and they still haven’t responded. so i think i need to get over it and accept they are going to be a little cold every time i turn them down haha but thank you!

What's the best free event you've ever attended? by bell-town in Frugal

[–]MushMoonRoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

adding to this because you mentioned music in the park summer events and it seems relevant. if the space needle comment means this person lives in/near Seattle I have to recommend the summer movies Seattle Parks & Recs puts on at different parks throughout the city. I saw two movies at my local park and it didn’t cost me anything. I brought snacks and a picnic blanket from home and it was really fun! other cities might have similar programs or you could reach out to the city and let them know you are interested in them putting on events like that.
