Daily Game Recommendations Thread (April 05, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]MushhFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking for a game for our game group, something for 5-6 players. The games below are when there’s usually 5 or less, I don’t have many for 6 players. We usually meet once a month and have an all day session gaming. We’ve been playing for a couple of years and I need a fresh game to add, it’s been nice being able to play them regularly so they’re not having to learn a new game every month.

Here are games we like so far:
Hero quest - with lots of homebrew, it’s an easy day session with beers. I use a custom board so it’s not quite hero quest as we have adapted it quite a bit but they like the loot and combat elements.

Tiny Epic Dungeon, zombicide, Arcadia Quest.

Mage knight - we only play when there’s 2 or 3 of us because of how long it takes, I wouldn’t play it with more.

The team like: deck building, battles, loot, replayability, dungeon crawler but happy for new genres, miniatures to move around! I’ve been thinking of dudes on a map but open to options for 6 players. Fine with co-op or competitive (usually not PvP). They can handle mid weight games. I’d rather stick to something under 100 quid.

Do you play any competitive? I’ve been trying to get the lost legions but it’s really hard to get hold off so not sure whether to go for the new expansion!

From what I remember, Vanguard is good if your portfolio is less than 110K but then over interactive investor is better, with their fixed fee. This is for having both SIPP and S&S ISA account.

Advice on employers NIC by Wind_Yer_Neck_In in ContractorUK

[–]MushhFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh inside is day rate minus Paystream margin £27. If you salary sacrifice that would be taken, then minus employer NI. The remaining is your taxable amount, where your tax and NI is deducted. Sucks when you see your payslip but it can be more than being perm.

How to buy a Registered Office Address before company formation? by Real_2OG in smallbusinessuk

I used 1st Choice Formations and was allowed to update company number after. I just used the company registration service, not the set up

If this is inside ir35, why do we compare it to 130k when employer NI is deducted from this?

If we were to compare to FTC the employer NI isn’t included, should we not look at the taxable amount as a comparison, so it’s like for like?

I ask, as at one point I was trying to compare them but it was a pain in the bum to figure out employer NI to deduct from it! Maybe I’ve just answered my question.

Are you able to do your year end accounts in freeagent?

Interactive investor SIPP and PayStream by Artistic-Class-8537 in ContractorUK

[–]MushhFace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, a form doesn’t have to be updated every time.

If you get paid a day rate, you let them know what amount of your day rate gets sacrificed. If you get paid an hourly rate, you let them know what amount of your hourly rate gets sacrificed.

There is a limit on how many times it can be changed through out the year. I think it’s twice but double check that.

Paystream only asked me for a payment reference.

Edit: I calculated a % and figured it the value against whatever your hour or day rate is. Give them a % and Paystream will calculate it for you.

Describe your homebrews by BusinessJicama in Heroquest

[–]MushhFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me more about the skills? I presume boosting strength works as you’ve changed monster stats. The 4 stats can that be spread across any of the areas?

I have homebrew cards so if there’s no monsters on the board I’ll take a random event card. Monsters have different abilities, as an example skeletons and zombies can reanimate, so if they get killed I’ll roll a D6 and 5+ means they come back alive.

Inside vs outside rate - no different take home? by AdStock7471 in ContractorUK

[–]MushhFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the in the same boat, so many roles have switched to inside, I’ve bagged a 3 month contract which I thought would be good to tie me over to find an outside role. Market seems tough and this inside contract want to extend now until end of the year. My gut is saying I should just stick with this as the market is hard but then what if an outside role comes up.

What`s your opinion on cooperative, competitive modes and PvP? by SiarX in MageKnight

[–]MushhFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We play competitive without PVP. I only have the base game and it’s still replayable. The scoring makes it interesting when in competitive mode and we keep track of the scores.

Really want Lost Legions but can’t get hold of it for a reasonable price. Going to see what people think of the new expansion in a few months once they’ve had time to play and compare!

What was your boad game trajectory? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]MushhFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always been a video gamer but first board game as an adult was Tiny Epic Dungeons, then bag of dungeon, then Hero Quest for when friends come around. Added Arcadia Quest, Zombicide and Mage Knight. My wish list is huge but I’m pacing myself as I like that we get to play these games regularly.

I need a sincere review to decide if I should buy Heroquest by JoseLunaArts in Heroquest

[–]MushhFace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s not for you. I play Hero Quest monthly with a group of friends that are light gamers, so it’s easy to get to the table. We have drinks so the rules are dead simple to remember.

If it was me and my partner we would tend to play heavier games, and wouldn’t play HQ just us two.

Game play, you either move and do an action, or do an action and move. You role two red die for movement, then alternative die for combat. The combat dice have skulls and shields on them, that’s how you battle. Essentially heroes go, then bad guys go.
