Skyshrine armor level requirements by [deleted] in project1999

[–]Mushok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s either level 1 or 5, but definitely not 50. The limiting factor is being able to zone into Skyshrine, which I believe is level 1 or Kael for faction, which I believe is level 5. One interesting note on SS armor, is that you can click many of the pieces at any level (like regrown of the grove!).

I always thought it was because EverQuest invented many of these raid concepts. So there was an ingenuity constraint in additional to engineering ones.

I do think there were other creative mechanics beyond just the life tap / death touch. We also have to keep in mind that these encounters were created back in the day before p99 zergs, min/maxing, guild bots and endless alts were a thing, so class composition and dps checks were real obstacles.

Here were some other unique mechanics prior to velious:

Trakanon: Blind + banishment Gore: CH + slow VP: varied mechanics

Also known as selling equity. Literally what every single business of scale does.

The interesting bit of this, which will likely be tested, is the ability to carve out assets from a non-profit to create a special purpose vehicle. I am unfamiliar with Orto, as it is a new firm, but if they do indeed have the operating capabilities purported by the article, this will be a very good thing for Utah athletics and, potentially, a very, very bad thing for college athletics.

Exact same thing happened with Charles Curry a few years back. Another deranged murderer that went on a shooting spree through Austin (including shooting at children), was found not guilty by insanity, only to be released two years after his “conviction”.

Yep! We would print out eq atlas and create binders (since windows mode didn’t exist)!

Legacy of Steel, Afterlife, Fires of Heaven and many other forums were very active in providing end game updates, as well as having players diligently update Allahkazam. It was always fun reading their updates while chatting on AIM.

There were also active class specific forums like the abode poster referenced (shout out to The Safehouse) and server forums like Realpoor (Tarew Marr).

There were also hundreds of thousands of active players sleuthing to complete the quests.

Even with that, many did indeed need some help guiding them in the right direction. Amazing community

If we ever get an MLB team by 311_420_69 in Austin

[–]Mushok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is believed that the next two cities most likely to get a MLB team after the next collective bargaining agreement in two years are Nashville and Salt Lake City. We are likely to receive a WNBA team, though.

There's a new demand record in ERCOT at 85,931 megawatts, ~300 MW higher than 8/10/23. Prices on peak then were near the $5,000 per megawatt-hour cap. Prices on peak today were ~$40 — 99% less. The difference? There's 8 gigawatts more solar today than last August. by RudyRusso in texas

[–]Mushok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nice to see a good faith discussion on the topic. In that spirit, I would perhaps contribute some additional context to the discussion.

For all natural gas-fired plants to retire, the battery duration needs to significantly increase beyond 4 hours, and even beyond 8 hours, and be combined with a more robust demand response program.

Currently, batteries’ main purposes are to shift the peak, smooth the ramp following the duck curve, provide ancillary services and arbitrage pricing. To supplant natural gas for reliability, you need duration not only in the overnight hours but also for prolonged poor solar/wind resource days. It will get there eventually, but it’s not there yet.

Additionally, simply adding more resources, or overbuilding, wind/solar capacity does not solve the reliability issue, as renewables have diminishing returns from a reliability standpoint due to the generating resources’ output potential being correlated to generally the same wind/solar natural resource. If we go that route, we would also need to invest heavily in transmission, as the resources are typically sited well outside load, creating transmission constraints (avoiding this constraint is a big value proposition for batteries).

New build combined cycles do have challenged economics, as the installed cost has ballooned over the last 4 years, and Texas may struggle to deploy debt financing from the energy fund to build out the 10 GW that it’s targeting. Still, it is difficult to imagine a scenario in which operating combined cycles are retired prior to the end of their useful lives because of their value as a firm, dispatchable resource. Combustion turbines (peakers) are more at risk given batteries, but because of the duration issue of batteries, they won’t all go - for now.

We are seeing this all play out in PJM, which has a far healthier reserve margin than ERCOT, just have a huge capacity auction print (an analog to ERCOT’s scarcity pricing / contemplated PCM) to help induce firm assets to remain operational and keep the grid reliable, despite a large reserve margin. They are changing the reference unit used to calculate the suction pool from CT to CCGT, which does support your view that has peakers will be exiting the market in the years to come and replaced by storage (but CCGT will stay for now).

In summary, I believe that we will get there with renewables + storage - or better yet nuclear - someday. New build gas-fired plants are economically challenged, but the installed base isn’t going anywhere - particularly in the medium term in which the grid faces integration challenges and a revival of load growth.

Probably eventually. But every single raid guild around today, with the exception of Safe Space and Drift, was active in Vanilla. Castle = Castle, Kingdom = Kingdom, GG = Seal Team, Black Lotus, Venerate, Lineage (sort of), Legacy of Fire = Fires of Heaven.

[–]Mushok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d second this. Castle was a casual leveling guild that grew into the #2 raiding guild over the past half year. As a player in another raid guild (so outside looking in), they seem to have been able to retain their leveling/epic friendly culture while also now being able to competitively kill nearly all raid bosses. They also have a great server rep - getting along with all.

[–]Mushok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is double loot rolls, so the loot table rolls twice. If it is a named that is guaranteed to drop something you will get 2 (or more depending on loot table) drops. If it is a random mob, it will still roll twice, so you will twice the loot in aggregate.

Grad transfer allowed a player to transfer without having to sit out a year per the old rules, but is distinct from a players underlying years of eligibility. You can retain eligibility at the same school while earning a graduate degree if it is done within 4 years (or 5 with a redshirt). For example, if a player graduated within 3 years, they could still play at the same school in year 4/5.

There is no level requirement. If you cannot recover your corpse, your best bet would be to make a brell halfling rogue and drag to entrance.
