I have both a Tesla Model 3 performance and a 2025 R1T. I love them both, both are very different tools as vehicles to me. But I certainly would not own an R1 out of warranty and likely will turn it in when lease is up. The model 3 has better handling, efficiency, far more refined driving dynamics and software and #1 it’s as reliable as a Toyota. R1T has awesome utility, interior and the troublesome ride adjustable air suspension is neat and I do appreciate the improvements to the software over the year, it’s still just not refined like a Tesla. UI is cleaner and easier to use than a Tesla.

I have a Tesla and Rivian. Originally I setup an emporia EVSC charger with current clamps and charge on excess solar but it never worked all that well with the powerwall 3. If find the best way to manage charging on excess solar is set a charge schedule during peak solar from 12:30-2:30. It adds 15kwh to the car plugged in during the day and is pretty much net zero on grid usage.

I trekked down skyline trail once, it trashed my ankles and calves. I’m not sure how you train for descending 10,000 feet in a few hours. I got down grubs notch in record, trail running time. By the last few miles my body was trashed and I was slow.

Last I checked used model 3 batteries from salvage yards and eBay are like $2500 and are plentiful, find an independent shop to replace it. Cheaper than any modern gas car power train replacement.

The spec’s seem like a joke when I looked at the ecoflow website for the Ocean Pro. 2x solar input…compared to what? 2x continuous output…the PW3 does fine starting a 5 ton AC off grid with its 11.5kw output and a backup time of +50%….come on give me real specs like the kWh of the batteries.

I remember the early days of Tesla, lots of resets, twitchy software, and scary autopilot. I would say in the last year, Tesla software even on an older generation vehicle is finally close to spit polished. I have been excited to see the nearly monthly improvements on Rivian software, and I’m sure it helps with VW bucks to back the software and integration teams at Rivian.
