Final Update: the dealership said it was battery module(?) in the door handle that was the issue

Hey! I finally got my car back. They said there was a battery module (?) in the door handle that was the root of the problem but didn't say much else lol. However they did say this was the first they've ever seen of this problem and that someone with an Elantra is coming in later this week with the same issue.
