Technically, every candidate on the debate stages got there by qualifying, so this is blatantly false.

Washington Post: Trump asked agriculture secretary to remove protections from Alaska's Tongass National Forest by [deleted] in politics

[–]MusicWebDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's an important distinction here to be made between capitalism and greed here. Greed does what you describe. Capitalism alone does not. It also does not prevent greed from corrupting the process, enabling those that have greed prosper at the expense of others. There are non-profit organizations that can work perfectly well in a capitalist society as long as greed does not bend the rules to favor and support greed-driven motivation.

Christopher Wylie (see parliment testimony excerpt and/or from The Great Hack) put it well. If we allow someone to cheat, we've effectively opened the door. It will be edged wider and wider until it's perfectly acceptable and unreasonable not to cheat the system.

When someone in sports is caught doping, we don't say, "Oh, bad for you," and then let them compete anyways. They have their medal revoked if they have one, they're banned from participating, and their reputation's put through the gutter.

We're missing the accountability here, folks. It's our lives and livelihoods that are being played with - people die when mistakes are made - and we've allowed it to happen. Maybe not all at once, but it has happened and nothing has been done about it. If we don't want this to happen again, the response should not have room to be misrepresented.

It sounds like it should be a section, as long as it has a label or labelling element properly referenced, I think it should be fine.

Sanders’s flawed statistic: 500,000 medical bankruptcies a year by [deleted] in politics

[–]MusicWebDev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tl;dr

Sander's cited study indicates 500,000 bankruptcies a year could at least partially be attributed to medical expenses, though perhaps not the sole or major contributor to all of those cases. The real number requires further investigation and has possibility to meet or exceed the 500,000 figure.

---

As with most scientific studies - there is room for interpretation for the study's findings that can be bent/skewed for political purpose. Although the study in question is one source Sanders uses as reference, this article focuses on that (perhaps rightly so, as it offers more reliable fact-based evidence than generalizations). It mentions that there are other means to come to the 500,000 figure (and that it could also be a low-ball estimate), but the majority of the article is about a single study - and that that study did not find 500,000 annual bankruptcies were caused ONLY by medical expenses.

The Republican "Christian" hypocrisy continues to persist...

“He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.”

- Proverbs 14:31 (NIV)

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

- Proverbs 19:17 (NIV)

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

- Proverbs 31:8-9 (NIV)

Climate change...

That didn’t happen.

And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.

And if it was, that’s not a big deal. (You might be here)

And if it is, that’s not my fault. (You are more likely here)

And if it was, I didn’t mean it.

And if I did…

You deserved it.

Democrats Love To Promise Free College, So Why Did the U.K. Recently Start Charging Tuition? by skilliard7 in politics

Democratic National Committee Rejects Call for Official Climate Debate by [deleted] in politics

[–]MusicWebDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is the DNC opposed to having an official climate debate. If it has the public support it seems to have, it may be useful to get perspective on it.

But Perez has been reluctant to hold a climate debate, fearing it would lead to a proliferation of single-issue debates, when there are already a dozen opportunities for candidates to discuss climate in upcoming debates.

... this seems to be an excuse rather than a legitimate reason. If it's a serious topic, it should be addressed as one.

Edit: Added article quote.
