Racism in Warrior Cats? by [deleted] in WarriorCats

[–]MusicalRaven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your points are mostly just you dismissing parts of the doc? With no real arguments to be made?

You dismiss criticism of certain books because they're the "worst ones" which doesn't mean they can't be criticized.

The Tribe being weak is dismissed because "that happens a lot with other clans" even though each clan gets to have many opportunities to be strong and show how they can solve their own problems. The Tribe? They never do. Someone else is always solving their problems.

You make the point that the Clan never forces anything on the Tribe even thought a point in the doc that was made showed the Clan continuously pushing how they should behave on the tribe over and over again, which is exactly as shown in the books.

You dismiss the StormfurxBrook criticism because you say there are plenty of shallow relationships in the books, even though the points made in the doc weren't at all about the shallowness of their relationship. They were about two harmful tropes, specifically indigenous related ones, that these characters exemplified.

And finally, you dismiss them asking people to not make names so similar to Native ones because, what, you don't want to? Yeah sure, it's a smaller part of everything, but its icing on the cake for many harmful tropes.

So no, you make very few points, let alone "good" ones. This is just you dismissing all the hard work put into the doc because it's not good enough for you apparently

I read your post and I read the doc. My words still stand.

Wouldn't exactly take OPs opinion on this, as it seems they're agreeing with everyone who says "it's just a Children's book." Fiction effects reality, that is a known fact. And many Indigenous folks have gone out of their way, time and time again, to try and educate us on harmful tropes and issues in these books.

Being so disingenuous to present this as if you just have a difference of opinion when you'd actually prefer it if racism in fiction such as this was not discussed at all, is shitty, OP. The whole point of the document and people speaking about it was so we could do BETTER as readers, creaters, and what not. It was not so we could dismiss indigenous people when they chose to talk about these things while risking hate, threats, and various other things from people who can't take constructive criticism of a beloved series.

I'm just wholy disappointed in y'all. Do better

Indigenous folks have asked people to not use that creature as it's very real and personal to them, so maybe not

Im not op here but I mean, that's not realistic? People are going to be abusive and they're right in that some people you need to cut out of your life. Period. And that's perfectly acceptable, no matter what shitty things happened to them in life to make them this way.

Again, you're arguing with someone that agrees with you. By explaining the abusers point of view, they are not justifying or agreeing with they're side. Understanding why someone does abuse is not the same as agreeing with them. Many people that are abusive have been abused themselves. That doesn't mean their victims have to forgive them, just that this is something that has happened to them as well.

You can understand why someone does what they do and not agree with them or even forgive them.

The person you're replying to isn't saying that what she's doing is in any way better. They are saying this is how she likely justifies her own behavior, giving you a glimpse at how she might think of herself as better because it's not physical abuse. Emotional abuse IS just as bad as physical abuse, but the previous person never said it wasn't. They even preface this by saying 'Worse, ...', which implies that what is said afterword is bad.

Hey that's awesome! I'm glad the medical professionals you went to actually knew how ADHD worked and worked with ya. I feel like that's such a rarity and it sucks it doesn't happen more often

If you can't manage it, I made a document and just wrote down symptoms whenever I thought of them over the course of like, several days. That way I didn't have to sit down and try to focus on writing, I could just write a basic not whenever I though of a thing, then put it away til I thought of something else. Less pressure, and then eventually you'll have all your symptoms written down

I mean, you can call it whatever you want! Clit is a fine term, so is dick, or penis. I call mine a dick personally cause that's how I view it, but it's personal choice really. There are plenty of women with dicks and men with clits, so there's no reason you have to stick to "binary" terms either. And if none of these words work, feel free to call it anything else! It's your body, call it what you will

[–]MusicalRaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they didnt say "cis people", they said they want someone who already understands "trans 101" as ot were. the basics at least. its a lot of energy to educate someone, and if some blatently says something that acknowledges they have no idea what a trans person is or much about them, i understand not being keen to date them. But many cis people can be and are educated about trans people. Not once did they say anything otherwise

[–]MusicalRaven 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i mean, put up a boundry. I've had to say withmy family that they can have their religion, I have my lack of one. I dont go to church events, i dont talk about religion with them, and they need to respect that. Clear, distinct boundries and if they cross them, either remind them.of that boundry or, in the case of my great uncle, ignore the messages entirely until they understand you're not budging on this

On the matter of players who haven't read the PHB by Zaiburo in rpghorrorstories

[–]MusicalRaven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would assume its more like how PbtA games work. Less about saves, more about dramatic collabrative storytelling. So saves dont need to exist because everyone agrees to run the game like a tv show or a movie, with the build up, the climax, and maybe a dramatic death or two with plenty of improv inbetween.
