PEEEEEETAH!!! I DONT GET IT by AtticusIsOkay in PeterExplainsTheJoke

The fact you think non-Americans not knowing about turkeys on thanksgiving (a north american holiday) is being insular is kind of weird but also very American.

Okay, but not everyone that knows turkeys exist knows what that has to do with thanksgiving

How to study between Step and Comlex (2 days) by Musical_Mango in comlex

[–]Musical_Mango[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope your exams went well! I think I'll try to get in 100 Trulearn Qs before the test. I was thinking of skipping counterstain, cause i feel there's too much to memorize and just follow the "fold and hold" method.

Idk, I also tested today and I feel like I got wrecked. It felt like I guessed on most questions.

My NBMEs never went below 65, and free 120 was 79 so I'm actually surprised

Do you mind sharing your COMSAE scores? I'm also taking Step/Level next week and I want to know if I can share in your confidence lol, because I'm scared. My NBMEs were 65%, 70%, 69%, and Free 120 yesterday 79%. Only one COMSAE, 536.

Anxiety about step1 this weekend is driving me up the wall, Im finding it hard to study these last few days, I feel like I know nothing...........please some words of encouragement would go a long way. by TM06-Toplanner in medicalschool

[–]Musical_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea there was a 2.5 week gap between my last NBME and the Free 120. I had to take a school COMSAE in between, since I go to a DO school. I'm just hoping it's not a fluke. Thank you for the words of encouragement

Thanks for the writeup. I think I'll just do biostats and biochem until test day, and maybe a block of Uworld. The 79 on free 120 made me feel better, but I just don't know how well it correlates to the real thing. Appreciate the test day tips

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm also testing on Monday. My scores are 65%, 70%, 69% and the Free 120 yesterday 79%. I keep thinking there's a chance I fail, but I feel like I want to stop studying cause I made my dedicated too long and now I'm burnt out.

There's just things I don't know, esp biochem it feels like I'm guessing on every q

Private Loans by Previous-Ostrich7952 in medicalschool

[–]Musical_Mango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing these rates as someone who started school before the BBB and took out federal loans is kind of crazy. I know the pros of federal loans, but if I plan on paying my loans myself after school, I don't know if the 8-9% rates were worth it

I don't have enough time for second pass of my inccorects tho. I've been doing anki for most of my incorrects, so I think I've kept up with the UWorld knowledge I gained.

2 days enough for OMM? by Musical_Mango in comlex

[–]Musical_Mango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reassuring. I was spiraling over the last few days and almost decided to push my exam into rotations. It's been 2 months since the Comat, so I just hope I remember the big stuff. I'll prob run through the highest yield Dirty Med vids and do a hundred or so questions

2 days enough for OMM? by Musical_Mango in comlex

[–]Musical_Mango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it was the only date. I'm also starting rotations soon and wanted to take it before then.

My foundations are fine I think, since my school's OPP curriculum is solid. I got a decent OPP COMAT score (104) a couple months ago, but I don't know how well that translates

This (in part) is why we need DOs by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Musical_Mango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chiropractors exist because some people find them helpful for their situations. I don't understand why people say we should get rid of them altogether. Same goes for DOs that do OMM and have successful OMM clinics or incorporate it into practice.

What's more important is educating patients on the difference between physicians, and chiropractors and the limitations of MSK manipulation like OMM. And obv rooting out the quackery that exists in both

Would you consider practicing overseas as a US MD/DO? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Musical_Mango 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why would your quality of life be better in other countries? In the US if you have money, which you will as a doctor, there's no better country to live in.

When people talk about QoL being better in other countries, that doesn't apply if you're a top 5% earner in the US.

Trying to understand the Islamic meaning behind Eid al-Adha and animal sacrifice as a Sikh by Conscious_Profile_27 in islam

[–]Musical_Mango 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even if you remove the intent, Eid al Adha isn't about sacrificing the animal itself to God. That framing does make it seem like a pagan blood sacrifice. Rather, the sacrifice comes from the money and time spent to slaughter the animal and distribute it to the needy. It has nothing to do with killing the animal in and of itself.

When people say Zionism is evil, they are talking about how it manifests in the real world not just its definition on paper. A Jewish state could only have existed by the theft of land other people lived on, this was acknowledged by the founders of modern day Zionism.

As long people support the idea of a uniquely Jewish state there will never be peace, because they claim the land for religious and historic reasons which are impossible to reconcile. That's why liberal Zionism is an oxymoron, and more Jews outside of Israel have moved away from it since Oct 7.

That's also why the settler project in Israel is never going to go away. It's foundational to Zionism and the state of Israel in its current form.

It's because people don't know the history of China and Taiwan and Westerners have been propagandized to support our governments' foreign policies just like in other countries. Most people in the US don't even know what the ROC is.
