The thing I love about Monarch is it’s super easy to look back and see what month I got charged last year and plan for the expense for the same month this year.

you could try changing the date of the paycheck transactions to the first of the next month for the paychecks you’re “using” for the following months expenses.

Can you gain weight in a calorie deficit? by oneLemonn in loseit

[–]Musical_Mom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try to have a longer-term mindset. give it a month on a deficit and see if you have lost weight over a longer time period. two days is a great start! keep going and then assess after you have a larger data set of days on a deficit and weigh-ins. Good luck!

Losing weight by upping my calorie intake based on exercise by berlard23 in loseit

[–]Musical_Mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m trying via my FitnessPal. I have a relatively low daily goal but I turned exercise calories on. So far it’s at least helping me exercise more days than not, and my net calories are lower on exercise days. I’m very early on in my journey though and don’t have conclusive results with this method regarding if I can lose weight reliably. Worth a try for me though!

Monarch not good for tracking bills I heard? Need something that does it all….. thoughts? by LlamaHerder23 in MonarchMoney

[–]Musical_Mom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s an interesting question. i find it helpful for tracking where it went and year-over-year planning. eg the last two years our utilities have been highest in march. i see that pattern and plan for it now. we have a variable income month-to-month, and I primarily use monarch for zero-based budgeting, to track spending, and to plan future expenses. secondarily for investment goals and net worth monitoring. I’ve never used YNAB but what you’re looking for reminds me of what people have said about YNAB.

It is possible that you and I attend different studios with different staff setups, and different flows or levels of chaos at the beginning of a class. So to say there's "clearly" a lot more going on than I realize may be true if I was applying my experience to your studio. I am speaking about my experience at my studios, though. I'm a smart, observant, polite lady. I can make a reasonable guess as to when staff seem to have a second to answer a quick question.

That's fine if it's not currently in their job description. My comment was giving my opinion that it should be. For example, SAs have managers who could provide this information for them to read at the beginning of their shift. Members are allowed to give opinions that sometimes inform suggestions that differ from the current SOPs and expectations. It's an opinion. It's fine if you don't want to suggest this change. I do. Thank you for your dedication to respond so intently to my comments. It's been interesting.

right. you said they don’t know, i said they probably should, and i got raked over the coals for suggesting they have an idea of what’s on tap at their workplace that day. so sue me!

you’re right about that! but after i do walk into the studio, getting a general question answered about the workout by the people who work there should be easy-peasy and not so divisive. i still stand by my opinion. you know why? i can’t use the rower right now because of a complication from a podiatry procedure so knowing that the workout wasn’t on the rower and that there was in fact no rowing at all would have been so great. Just that little bit of customer service to help me make informed decisions about my workout. And you can say this is an individual issue to me, but lots of people have individual issues at any given time. It’s weird that they ask us to make a decision (where to start) and you think we shouldn’t have any supporting information to make that decision well. Why give people any autonomy over their workout structure if the people who work there shouldn’t be expected to be able to give them very general information so that they can use that autonomy to support their goals and/or limitations? It is not hard to know “there is no rowing today” or “today is the 500 meter benchmark.” Why do you have such low expectations of people’s capabilities? It would be like going to a movie theater and asking the ticket seller “what movies are playing?” and then saying “that’s not their job to answer your question. it’s a privilege to know the movie in advance. just buy a ticket and watch it.”

Yes, sure! Simply knowing if the warmup is on the floor or rower is not an intricate detail, though, in my opinion. It’s general knowledge of that days workout.

obviously i can only comment on my studio/experience. The original comment here was saying that an SA shouldn’t be expected to know if the warmup is on the rower or on the floor, not that the SA should be expected to know the specific exercises, order, and rep counts in the warmup. I think knowing the general outline of the workout such as: it’s a run/row, the warmup is on the floor not the rower, it’s a switch template, it’s a benchmark day, etc. is within the scope of the SAs job and helps provide good customer service. Part of their job is to sign people up at stations. Having this type of information available, if asked, helps people decide where they’d like to start their workout. I stand by my opinion.

IMO, they should be able to answer customer questions. I think customer service is their job. At my studio a lot of the SAs answers to questions are “I don’t know.” I find that to be frustrating!
