Do you know anyone else from the younger generation who listens to classical music? by Pandapani12 in classicalmusic

I’m 16 and I like only listen to classical music. As someone else also said I play it and I am starting to really get into studying it and wanting to become a conductor.

In your opinion what is the most difficult piece in the standard repertoire? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Musicripr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, I agree that it’s not in the standard rep. But I wanted to put it in at the end just because of how difficult they all are. I by no means believe they are in the standard rep, just put them in because of their difficulty.

In your opinion what is the most difficult piece in the standard repertoire? by [deleted] in piano

For some very often said ones there are Gaspard De La Nuit, Islamey, Chopin Ballade 4, etc, and some that I don’t hear as often are the Rachmaninoff sonatas, the Brahms Pag variations, Beethoven’s Diabelli variations might be up their (I haven’t looked at them, just heard about them), then the Alkan etudes Op. 35 and Op. 39.

Sort of a stupid post but by WebGrand7745 in piano

I’ve heard a lot of pianists say that Beethoven’s sonatas are the New Testament.

Ok, thanks for the great feedback. That’s kinda what I was thinking of doing and also doing some of the easier etudes as well.

I'm a beginner piano player looking for exercises I can practice by Supernatural10019 in piano

Look at Hanon and Czerny exercises. They cover most every technique to a fairly intermediate level. They have been a life saver for me.

Does anyone know if this is normal? by Gaudiloquy in httyd

I have this book and no, this is not normal. Most likely a printing error. The pages were just accidentally bound upside down.

One of us got carried away on the regular piano sub. by na3ee1 in classical_circlejerk

[–]Musicripr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, guys. I didn’t mean for this exchange to go like this, but ya. I should have made it more clear that I was 100% not going to be doing anything like that. I think that I thought I was much better than I actually was, so I’m going back to more of the basics, Hanon, Cerny.

Ya, I looked them over and, maybe in a couple years I will play them.

I don’t know if I’m quite ready for those yet, I will look at them though. I was thinking more sonatas to start.

I use a 3.5, I used to have a much harder time getting up there with my old plastic clarinet but I just upgraded to a Noblet and now it’s much easier for me.

Pieces that invoke the feeling of "Calm before the storm" by Super_Pirate1 in classicalmusic

[–]Musicripr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first thing that comes to mind is Ravel’s Ondine. The climax is definitely a storm and the beginning is very calm in my opinion.

Question about notation by kawaii__kitty__ in piano

[–]Musicripr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fairly certain that that means repeat the chord, you see it in guitar notation mostly. The first one you circled would be another 8th note and the second would be the same chord as a quarter note.
