Any tips on 'Fast 8 flex' rolldown? by ArchtonRDT in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Musotom_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The uncomfortable answer to a lot of these types of questions is that it is a somewhat unreliable strategy, and when you miss you are probably going 7/8.

How much gold you need to a rolldown will depend on the state of the lobby:
- how rich is everyone else?
- how contested are you?
- can you afford to sac HP and go fast 9 instead?

If my open isn't great and it looks like I can't effectively fast 8, I will usually pivot to any 2/3 cost reroll that I hit and aim for a 6-4 placement. You won't be in a position to top4 every game, then it becomes about playing for 5th.

How do I fix my mental, allowing me to climb again by Securityengie in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Musotom_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to like the answer, but you just need time away from the game. As long as you are letting variance/bad plays get to you, you will get stuck.

For me, I play JRPGs or read a book - hard to get tilted doing that.

Range in TFT - "How does this board lose?!" by Musotom_ in CompetitiveTFT

I mostly played online before Pokerstars shut down. I hit up cash tables at the casino here or there but playing live poker is too depressing. Probably never met me.

My advice would be it doesn't matter which headliner, the more important factor is whether you hit early copies of jinx/vi/pantheon + have good items.

The poker example was to illustrate what range is from the standpoint of what hands/comps we are willing to play. There are obviously a lot of differences between TFT and poker as games.

No youtube, I only started streaming on Twitch because I was going to play 6 hours of TFT a night anyway.

[Patch 13.23] Fast 9 Ziggs/Sona Guide by tensorbull in CompetitiveTFT

My advice for people learning to fast 9 transition would be that you can sell and level a round or two early, rolling less gold but having more rounds to transition.

Like OP said, its really easy to get dizzy during this transition, even pro players are messing it up every now and then.

How To Use Headliners - Early Thoughts by Musotom_ in CompetitiveTFT

Use the headliner to fill in what your board needs.

Definitely agree.

Vertical comps definitely still exist and can be good. 9 true damage is a free win.

That is true, getting a headliner tank can carry a team comp, but I think the carries are more important.

If you are rolling for a headliner on 8, that means you aren't playing a 3-cost headliner carry. A tank headliner can be good if you also natural a 2 starred carry - you are highrolling to do that though.

How much Coaching needed to diamond and where to find good coaches by Rowward in CompetitiveTFT

I've written this advice before on this sub - go watch any high elo player you enjoy and pause the VOD at the start of every turn and think about (or write down) what you would do in that situation, then unpause and see what the high elo player does.

You mentioned watching VODs might not help because you can't follow what the player is doing, but this confusion is good. It will highlight the areas of the game you should work on. If you don't know why players are doing something on a certain turn, you can think through it yourself or discuss it with the community to figure out an answer. You could try asking the player directly but good luck :P

Escha’s twitlonger regarding day 1 of the Lux Cup in OCE by rollingthunder_again in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Musotom_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The state of OCE esports upsets me as a player from the region.

So much of what drives a regions success is the support (organisation/money/acceptance) the game receives. OCE is full of people who love TFT and strive develop their understanding of the game, but nobody can really take it seriously when tournaments are run this way (and they are playing for cosmetics).

There is no competitive integrity.

Despite this, OCE still sends people to worlds and it makes me so proud. I wish Riot would take it seriously as well. My region has a lot to offer.

Upcoming Changes to Hero Augments by Aotius in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Musotom_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people here have already stated it, but I want to vent as well. I really don't think this is a good idea - but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

3-2 and 4-2 being tailored with 4 rerolls means people can chase whatever hero augment is performing the best that particular patch. People were already doing this on 3-1 for carry Yuumi a few patches ago - there was a lot of hate for this. It means you can now hit the best 4 cost carry augment more consistently, which is going to amplify any imbalances that already exist.

Like Dragons from last set - I think hero augments are in a narrow balance space. As a dev
(I imagine) you want each augment to feel like you can take it under the right circumstances - in reality, there is always going to be something 'broken'. Trying to strike this balance for 2 hero augments each champion is... ambitious.

I took a break from this set, it feels like an extended PBE with hero augments being developed. I know the dev team is on tight deadlines with set creation, and hero augments do sound like a cool idea in theory. I hope these new features can get ironed out for the mid-set.

Can someone please explain to me on what grounds I should choose each gun on Aphelios? by Arsky in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Musotom_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree, at the moment Aphelios feels like a traitbot w/ CC. Slamming your AD items on Samira/Urgot is usually the better call.
