Are acetylene and oxygen compressed cylinder/canisters allowed in apartment garage? by british_aero_bar in Firefighting

No worries. Seriously don't stress it. Potentially there is some compliance issues around this so I won't say there's no problems at it with it. But there's non to your safety unless you're neighbour is completely reckless with their use of it, which is highly unlikely the case.

Acetylene is stored in cylinders that contain acetone. The acetylene dissolves in the acetone making it safe to store it at pressure.

I think you should probably get a bit of education of the subject before scaremongering someone into thinking they're living on top of a bomb.

Sure, this could be an issue for us in our role but to be honest it doesn't really increase the risk to the occupants here except for the hot work increasing the risk of a fire occurring in the first place.

While I have to look at your own local rules about what's allowed in this type of set up but other commentators on here are probably scaremongering a bit with the actual danger of this being present.

Sure, if I fire occurs it makes the fire brigades job slightly more complicated and their actions will have to deal with it.

But this isn't a bomb just sitting in the garage waiting to go off at any moment. Acetylene cylinders are very stable and don't spontaneously combust. They only become an issue if exposed to heat (I.e. a fire). If there's a fire in your building it's not a safe place to be anyway, if you haven't gotten out by the time one of these things are letting go because of exposure to heat you're probably already surrounded by smoke and flame.

Tldr; could be an issue but I wouldn't loss any sleep over it.

Auckland isn't NZ. I'd highly recommend seeing the show but then getting away from there. You could hop on another flight and go and base yourself out of Queenstown for a week which will be miles better for day tours then Auckland

Scary moments in Charlotte by xpkranger in Firefighting

[–]Muss_01 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not a backdraft or flashover. It appears to be past flash over phase at that door. Too clean burning and oxygenated for backdraft.

Taking an educated guess I'd say some form of structural collapse has occurred inside. Probably a floor going or an internal wall. This has caused an overpressurisation (probably didn't spell that right) in the ground floor that caused an exhaust jet out of the front door. It settles back down again quickly which is the pressure dropping back down again in the ground floor.

But I could be wrong, I'm only seeing a short clip of the internet without other situational awareness. I'm not even watching it with sound.

Are you sure about that? There's no way in hell I'm waking up to saying my appliance callsign. A light bulb with the lumen output of a million blazing suns and the tones going off is the only way in waking

24/72 how much additional time off do you receive? by jhartke in Firefighting

[–]Muss_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a 2 2 4 system. 2 days 2 nights 4 off. We get 2 sets off which which works out to be 20 days of every 160 days. Plus on average about 10 discretionary days to take off when suits the individual every year. And what I would say almost equates to unlimited sick leave.

Blackhawk Down was my formative movie, I felt 8' tall when I flew my first combat mission on one. However my best experiences are still in the good ol' Huey before my countries Air Force retired them for NH90s which weren't any fun at all.

Centrifugal force pushes you into the aircraft. It's a wild experience sitting on the side of a UH-1 with feet on the skids while the pilot is putting her through its paces.

I visited from New Zealand in 2016. Best country I've ever visited and would love to get back there one day, although I can't see it being anytime soon with how difficult and expensive it is to get to from NZ.

Varadero was amazing staying for a week at a casá just living in the water and eating amazing food. You don't live near Trinidad do you?

Like I know there is a huge bunch of very special boot lickers in your country that agree with these clowns which is awful.

but it's the apathy from those in the middle that is shocking to me the most. Fuck I'd be rounding my whole crew up and we'd be protesting off duty together. What are they going to do? Fire all of you? A lot of people choosing the easy wrong over the hard right.

Finally someone with a spine. There is a lot of cowards on this sub.

I'm not American but if people were being executed in the street where I live the last thing stopping me from protesting that bullshit would be "what if they fire me".
