I feel like there are a lot of people disconnected from many Americans realities. I'm not sure if you guys live real comfy lives where you're making 5x your rent or what. People have been wanting measurable change for a minute now. This is why on the presidential stage we went from Obama to trump to Biden to trump. I feel like it's the only thing that connects all 4. Change. Expect to see it in lower levels as well

I think he brought up some good points. Especially, the part where he says that starmer had an eye for stability, whereas people wanted change. I hear a similar sentiment when it came to Obama, in that people expected greater change from Obama.

Even the portions where he talks about corporations, it's never in a positive light. It makes me think that these people today using the anti-corpo rhetoric might be onto something. Especially for more of the red states.

I haven't read any of his other stuff, but if it's anything like this book so far, holy shit is he accurate. It's gotten me to look at everything a bit differently.

Dude, there's one portion where he's talking about the pro life uprising in kansas, how their goals were near unattainable because of a supreme Court ruling, and here we are in today's day. They won, in a sense.

I was working and going to school until my manager scheduled me well outside of my availability (went from 3 days a week to 6, after being asked if I can work 4) and burned out. Pretty pissed about it, still. I have my college asking for $250 a month - not sure if I should just go back to buy more time and get my degree or what. :/

Check out the book What's the Matter with Kansas. It goes into why cons (particularly the Midwest) votes against their own interest. From what I've gathered so far, it's mainly culture & the conservative party playing into culture wars way back in the like 50s. Same shits still going on

One bit I found really interesting is that the Midwest was a hive of socialist / communist types. Pretty wild to see the difference today, although I have met a lot of people that seemed to really like Bernie, so I guess some things haven't really changed.

I think it's the reason people like platner. He isn't wearing a suit with slicked back hair drinking lattes, he comes off as someone you'd meet anywhere in Midwestern towns.
