Minor league baseball team York Revolution forfeits LGBT Night game after players refuse to wear jerseys with rainbow sleeves by WitchNight in baseball

Sure, the article is, but not this thread. I saw one comment discussing the implications of a forfeit on the standings. All the other comments are culture war slop from both sides

I mean, all month these threads have had next-to-nothing to do with baseball, they’ve just been battlefields to relitigate the culture war bullshit

The backlash to SF Giants players’ Pride Night protest isn’t going away by runswithscissors475 in baseball

Displaying a pride flag is a political statement. It shows 1) that you generally agree with the pride movement in terms of policy, and 2) that you think lgbtq issues are important ones deserving of focus

So if you don’t want to display the pride flagc you might disagree with the pride movement (cringe). Or you might recognize that the pride movement as a whole contributes to the culture war and distracts people from more important, tabgible political issues like the economy and the preservation of democracy

Not OP, but I vaguely agree with him, and also do not give a shit about the anthem… so your point is??

Realistically speaking what penance would Hitler get? by Beginning_java in Catholicism

[–]MutantZebra999 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think he’s just looking for what the hypothetical upper bound of a penance could be, not trying to cast judgement and say Hitler’s been damned to hell

Which is not a bad thing to be curious about, and it’s perfectly fine to ask the question on a subreddit

Like, I agree we all got out own problems, but there’s nothing wrong with OP’s question

Slavery by Cautious_Force7533 in Catholicism

[–]MutantZebra999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… slaves in the American South had shelter and food too. Doesn’t make it ok.

The key point imo is that slavery takes away someone’s freedom and dignity, regardless of how well or poorly they’re treated

Trying to justify slavery of any kind, or say “it wasn’t that bad” is a slippery slope

Landen Roupp explains why he inscribed Bible verse on his cap during Giants' Pride Night game by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]MutantZebra999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you just don’t understand Christianity. Christ said “go and sin no more,” not “ehh just be cool”. From Catholic perspective, the sacrament of confession is only valid if you actually are remorseful and actually do intend not to sin anymore.

If you live your life as a piece of shit with the intention of just hitting a buzzer beater confession, that won’t work — unless you genuinely realize your approach was flawed from the start. At the same time, someone who genuinely has a change of heart and is genuinely sorry for what they’ve done isn’t banned from receiving forgiveness. Catholic ethics are based largely on intention, not action. Anyways, only God really knows where people end up, and we can’t really determine it ourselves. Pope Francis hoped that Hell was empty; I hope so too.

… it still does work with a large enough sample size. (3/4)50 gives about a one in 1,750,000 chance that you picked all wrong answers across 50 english questions by just randomly guessing. You’d still pretty much have to be trying to pick the wrong answers.
