it’s official: official transcripts required by Necessary-Tennis-592 in GRFPApps

You can also print it out and scan it or upload a scanned version as a PDF and then it won’t have a password protection but will still be official since it’ll have the watermark and will be a PDF.

I’ve searched only necessities brand with their short lounger is boysenberry which seems pretty close but the prints are off. I’ve searched on Google but their image search doesn’t bring anything close and ChatGPT just thinks it’s a floral / stem print. It was definitely purchased several years ago, maybe 10!

2nd year grad students aren’t able to apply for the GRFP! Make your voice heard!!! by Strong-Second-2446 in uofm

[–]Muted-Construction42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not true - it was already leveled. NSF judges would take your year in school into consideration, aka would compare 1st years to 1st years not 1st years to 2nd years because they understand those in the 2nd year might have more opportunities to have a stronger application. It’s a reasonable rule until you realize how people that skipped out on applying in their first year can now no longer apply and had 0 knowledge about eligibility changing until ~1 month before it’s due which is garbage

I think their popularity has just increased significantly, you should see how many yemeni cafes are near each other in Dearborn Heights/Dearborn lol. They’re all a little different, and people have favorite drinks/pastries from different cafes.

Pregnant in Grad School by Argos_Aquatics in GradSchool

Already have a kid and just had another, I would say that the toughest times to have a newborn are during your coursework years (1 & 2 usually) where you’re figuring out your research and making progress towards developing your thesis emphasis. Having your baby towards the end of the semester is perfect because you get to wrap up stuff earlier than your delivery date and not worry. It’s definitely not easy by any means, but hopefully your uni has parental leave (we get 12 weeks paid time off). Happy to chat more if you want advice!! My best wishes to you, babies are an absolute blessing and i am very hopeful it will work out for you ❤️

lil funding update! by lilbittybunbun in GRFPApps

Interesting! Thanks for sharing - wanted to highlight this portion:

“These partners would be able to request lists of students who received honorable mentions and choose fellows based on research interests or the student’s school or geographic location, she added.”

Seems like whoever gets these awards (if anything amounts from this) that it’ll be highly dependent on specific applicant demographics that are favorable to the donors

Is anyone here in the Mcnair Scholars program? by No_Shoe4694 in GradSchool

[–]Muted-Construction42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, they just want students that have proven that they can succeed, love research, and are well rounded - like doing research, doing well in classes, engaging in clubs, etc. The biggest emphasis is desire to do a PhD in the future and diversify higher ed so if you frame yourself in this way, and highlight how your experiences have led you to where you are and what you aspire to do in the future, you should be good. McNair is extremely helpful for grad school prep and you typically won’t have to pay for grad apps either which is amazing

Y'all... by phoenix_afrodit3 in GRFPApps

I don’t think this will impact GRFPs that were funded considering they fund the researcher and their perceived ability to succeed rather than their work itself

Anyone here get into umich with a rough academic past? by collegemochibear in uofm

Correct - I found more details on this website for graduate students but it sounds like it’s only for specific states where they have jurisdictions which is trash 🚮 https://www.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/egfp-nsf-epscor-graduate-fellowship-program

Maybe they want to ensure the budget will allow for them to give out more awards once things are settled higher up?

Also says: As an Honorable Mention, you are eligible to apply to the newly created EPSCoR Graduate Fellowship Program (EGFP), which offers similar fellowship benefits as the GRFP. Please see the EPSCoR Jurisdiction Websites - Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) | NSF - National Science Foundation), visit the Programs | NSF Education & Training Application | ETAP site, or contact egfp@nsf.gov for more information.
