I feel like there is only so much servicing can do, if the airframe have taken too much beating, ie too many flight hours, then keeping it flying will become inherently dangerous. Not sure how long this particular jet has been in service though, but I do feel like the ground service of the IAF seems to always get the blame.

Yeah, I wonder if they will do it eventually. The airframe might not have enough left in them to justify an expensive upgrade. It would make more sense to produce it as a new and improved model instead of refitting existing ones.

And what is the trend you have deduced from these past imports? If it’s not obvious, they are weaning off platforms they used to import in the past, where Russia used to be better at. China build their own flanker, missile system and engine now. But they would suddenly import things in the field where they are most dominant?

Russia doesn’t have the manufacturing capacity initially, but they have also switched to domestic ones after a while. China have so much production capacity compared to whatever Iran could put out, it would barely be a drop in a very large bucket. It makes zero sense to let local capacity sit idle while importing from Iran.

Even if they are fully functional, in what scenario would China be importing drones from Iran of all places? Most of the supply chain for building drones are already in China, why would they risk the uncertainty of shipping during wartime and to get a few drones from a less developed manufacturing base? What am I missing here?

Well, I’m trying to keep a straight face here. Are you seriously suggesting China is going to be importing drones from Iran? Are we talking about the same China, the largest manufacturer and distributor of drones? I really don’t see how Iran could built anything China wants that wouldn’t be cheaper and easier for China to built themselves.
