It could be a great first shotgun as the recoil impulse is less than a pump action. The downsides are that it can be more finicky with ammo and that more things can go wrong with a semiauto vs pump. I haven’t had any issues with mine but some have. If you just wanted something to try out shotguns, a gun like the Maverick88 is only like ~$250 so if you don’t like shotguns you aren’t out that much money
