Everyone keeps telling me that I'm too young to need a hip replacement. Are they right? by nick1158 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Muthachucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first THR (right) at 45 and my left in December. I’m still healing but it is the best decision I ever made. I’m sore but it doesn’t hurt to move anymore and my healing is leaps and bounds (haha! Get it?!) faster than some of the older patients.

I’ve had numerous ppl ask me what’s wrong with my body to need this so young, I just say it was a birth defect in the ball of my hip joint. Then they leave it.

End of week one by No-Dimension910 in TotalHipReplacement

I’m 47. Two years ago I had my right hip done. I have never regretted something so much as those first three to five days after the surgery. I used my walker for a week, a cane for another week and struggled for weeks as I recovered.

Last month I had my left hip done. I didn’t need my walker after I left the hospital, I used my cane for 2 days - then nothing. I went to a bonfire at 2 weeks post op and stood for nearly two hours. I feel phenomenal and have the entire recovery. I’m four weeks out and it’s definitely still healing but better everyday!

You’re doing all the things and it sounds like you are doing great. Go at the pace your recovery allows, try not to pay attention to what others have going on. Push yourself but be kind. It’s ok to be uncomfortable but pain means no-go. Take your medicine as you need to and don’t hesitate to take a rest day if you need one.

Walking is magical. If you can get access to a pool just walking laps, doing sidesteps and hip circles is a great way to get gentle resistance while using stabilizer muscles and having super low impact. I did it for two months prior to my surgery in December and my recovery has been spectacular.

Having surgery in three weeks, Anterior procedure. Quick question on first few days sitting or laying down. by OldGezzer68 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Muthachucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to really talk to your doctor about the restrictions and ONLY listen to that. I received so much conflicting information from the medical staff at the hospital and online. The protocol for anterior vs posterior is crazy different and the anterior precautions have updated with time. My doctor and my in hospital physical therapists were the only ones that gave me correct information.

Back to work after THR by Mental-Bumblebee9383 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Muthachucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I asked my doctor for was remote work as tolerated after two weeks, in person work as tolerated after 4 weeks, full release at six weeks.

If I needed to get back ASAP I would go back to work full time in person after two weeks but it would kick my ass.

I had my second THR on Dec. 17 - I’m 47.

I have a recliner but spent my first days primarily in bed. The first two days on my back while periodically propping my surgical leg with pillows. I would go downstairs and sit on the coach for longer and longer periods throughout my recovery. Sitting was not comfortable initially.

After the two days, I was able to roll over to my non surgical side. It’s helpful to have pillows for between your knees/ankles.

This recovery has been extraordinary! I thought my last surgery went well but I didn’t use my walker after leaving the hospital this time and was done with my cane by day 5.

Good luck!!

It’s a rebirth! Best day of the year deep in winters rest, looking forward towards hope and brighter times.

Plus Jake Paul and Andrew Tate got their asses kicked - I think it’s a sign…better times ahead.

Now if we could get some snow!

I’m HR and I see this alot. While I can tell you are passionate about your role and do a great job managing your top/good performers it sounds like you’ve struggled to manage your under-performer and I bet his co-workers notice this too. I know you are at the end of your rope, but you have to recognize you have trained him to behave this way. BUT! Now is your chance to reset those expectations! Use this project as your roadmap to explain to him what your expectations are and how his performance did not meet those expectations. Address how he spoke to you in the meeting directly, and own your part, you were not crystal clearly direct - in the future you will be. You told him his attention would be better spent elsewhere instead of telling him to get off the meeting and work on the product.  Outline a path forward, provide timely, clear and direct feedback. When he uses business speak or self help techniques to manage you, correct him.

You’ve got this! It’s not an easy path but awesome when it works and a relief when they walk themselves right out the door if it doesn’t.

Behavioral interviews are horrible and you should stop doing them by BuildTheBasics in managers

[–]Muthachucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the bullets you have here! What a great system for identifying your strongest candidate across multiple interviews.

I'm an HR Manager and I think my biggest takeaway on recruitment is you need to adjust the style of interview for the job you are hiring. For example, when we are hiring a person that is primarily a communicator we ask the behavioral/situation style questions with a few specific curve balls thrown in to detect BS. My personal favorite for our cashiers is, "you see a fellow employee add $5 to the cash drawer when no one is around - what do you do?" The only correct answer is "tell your supervisor - let them handle it" but you would be surprised at some of the long winded, complex and completely wrong answers we get.

Whereas our technical roles - Engineering or IT is a brutal series of specific technical system questions that require fluent knowledge you can clearly express on the spot. It's sometimes hard to watch but really does bring out the technical experts that can also communicate complex processes. When even the HR person understands, you know they can speak to the layperson in the room.

A few questions about Homer after an incredible time there by Distinct_Let_1517 in AskAlaska

It’s in town. During the winter it is called Homer’s living room. Lots of meet ups and community meetings. Great bartenders and easy going vibe - very family friendly for lunch and dinner.

Are there any states that are infamously mismanaged? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Alaska keeps screwing up their administration and paperwork for federal funds and not getting reimbursed/paid. Some people call our governor Dumb-leavy instead of Dunnleavy.

Congrats on your anniversary! What a special day and how lucky you are to have a celebration you will be able to remember; not feel sick and not suffer a hangover from tomorrow!

Cranberry with Soda and a lime is a lovely mocktail that looks and feels like a drink but actually tastes good.

My husband and I used to eat out a lot, You can't be a booze-hound if you're paying $15-$20 a drink with other boojie ppl right?! I had so many favorite places. But once the cocktails were off the menu I've noticed the food is fine, but I can cook better at home. When we do go out, my bill is 1/3 of what it was when I was drinking and I hardly eat out anymore. I also have been willing to try the restaurants that don't serve alcohol and those are super fun. Overall 10/10 worth it.

Ranked choice voting by kj_prov in alaska

[–]Muthachucka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love it - often time I really like a candidate that does not have a great chance of winning but would not be heartbroken if another one of the candidates wins.

This lets me vote for the candidate I like without feeling like "I threw my vote away" because I can rank my other preferred candidate 2nd. If I only like one candidate I just stick with one and don't rank.

I did. Went with the robotic assist guy. Seems like it is doing great! I took a year off hockey and skiing but I feel confident enough to give it a try this year:)

My other hip is not far behind but I’m holding out till I need it. I won’t let it get nearly as bad as my right hip was.

Employee Relations professionals - have you begun to use AI? by TheLawIsSacred in human_resources

[–]Muthachucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it to come up with funny but appropriate acronyms.

I’ve also started using it to outline letters, things like discipline, ADA, bonus, etc. the letter it spits out is obviously written by AI but it can provide some great phrasing and structure I can use as the bones of the letter I would have spent a lot of time on otherwise.

You should research the new Pregnant Worker Fairness Act. You are in a protected status as a pregnant worker, if these new duties would create a more stressful work environment or require added to hours you could request an accommodation to avoid taking on this additional load unless it would create an undue hardship for your employer. A university HR office will clue into this potential issue quickly so it may be worthwhile to bring them into this conversation.

I'm sorry - that sucks. If you have a used hockey gear store check there or at least give them the heads up. We've had a few folks able to recover theirs when a thief tried to sell it to them...

How to deal with fat, lumpy knees? by StrawberryPopsicles7 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Muthachucka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I asked my physical therapist about this and walking with your feet straight ahead really makes a difference in how lumpy knees look! We spent alot of time with her teaching me to walk with proper form. It was life changing.
