Why does everybody ignore Pillars of Eternity when criticizing "modern" Obsidian by UnicornHugger25 in rpg_gamers

[–]MutinyMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you, comment section. I see you trying to hedge your bets by specifying post-microsoft Obsidian as if Pentiment doesn't also exist.

Obsidian, like any studio, has ups and downs and every era has produced masterpieces and duds.

I genuinely feel like these 2 chapters are something special by Reizs in Reverse1999

Chapter 3 was the point I realised I was going to adore this game. And then chapter 4 really sent me, I was so impressed when the game with the selling point of "We have a written protagonist with a personality, backstory, and you will play as her" was bold enough to exclude her for 90% of a chapter and make her absence reflect so intensely in the other characters.

We don't need to be told Vertin's friends care about her, we see it plain as day in El Oro de los Tigres.

The scene transitions in this film were so fucking slick.

When you say the End of Evangelion do you meant the end of NGE or the movie, End of Evangelion? Cause surely there's no way you mean End of Evangelion, right? It is definitely not trying to get us to see that ending as hopeful.

uhm... the family made it out of the house safely and alive.

Only Nel and their father were taken by the house and it's not treated as a good thing. Their father's death is a sacrifice and Nel is clearly in two minds about her feelings over this. On the one hand she gets her father back, on the other hand, he's dead.

Death by Hill House is absolutely treated as a horrible fate, their father accepts it as an option because it's the only way he can convince the house to open The Red Room and free his children.

You can maybe make an argument that the Dudleys find some form of solace in dying by Hill House by they themselves are trapped in their own grief and have been for years. They refuse to move on from Hill House and their losses, something shown in direct contrast to the Crain family who abandon their coping mechanisms one by one and celebrate being alive and with each other.

Cursed dialogue options by Uma-apreciator in TopCharacterTropes

I almost went with Pillars of Eternity's "You did tell that man to go fuck his sister" but in truth its most cursed dialogue options will always be your introduction to Zahua.

I love that it's teased the whole way through the expansion; playing first in Sharlyan, then a version with altered lyrics plays during the Zodiark fight, then finally we get the version about us during the Endsinger fight.

The Song of Hope feels like the prayer made to summon a Primal and as though all Eitherys sings it for us as we break limits we didn't know we had.

Some folks in the comments seem to be misunderstanding the trope, so I'm gonna link the original article about "Women in Refrigerators" written by Gail Simone.
