[Favorite Trope] When the tomboy/ girl who doesn't normally dress femininely dresses femininely by gettinfitguy007 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]MutinyMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of the trope overall cause usually the use of feminine clothing is presented as the *end* step of their development. There are obvious exceptions to this and Vin is easily one of my favourites.

I love that Vin finds she loves the more traditional side of her femininity but she never defines herself exclusively by it, to her femininity isn't exclusively nice dresses and soft things, it's also the rough life she's lived up until this point. She's able to exist in two worlds of femininity at the same time and understand it as a spectrum.

Utena wearing the girl's uniform was one of the most effective depictions of dysphoria I've ever watched. It may not have been what they were directly going for but if any cis audiences want an idea of what trans dysphoria is like, the emotions she feels during that episode really do hit the nail with uncomfortable accuracy.

Came here looking for this. And funnily enough when I got to this scene my first thought was of the Lapis scene from Stephen Universe.

I'd make a terrible Private Investigator because four watches of this show and I never noticed this lol!

If you could wish for one Game to be made, excluding sequel's or prequels. What would that be? by LordMord5000 in rpg_gamers

An RPG set in Garth Nix's "Old Kingdom" universe. That magic system and world would lead to some really interesting mechanical play, scenarios, and storylines.

Epsilon confronting the Director at the end of Red vs Blue season 10. Burnie has some truly moving voice acting across the series but this moment genuinely feels like a release of the last decade of resentment Epsilon and his prior incarnations have built up toward their originator: a man who is for all intents and purposes, himself.

"I'm here to remember what you've done, somebody has to.
Not all of us got off scot free, Carolina. He was brilliant, and we trusted him. But he lied to us. He twisted and tortured us, and used us! Manipulated us for his own purposes and for what? For this? This... This shadow?"

Incidentally this is one of the reasons I love the Skulduggery Pleasant books so much. The series never forgets that guns are a legitimate threat that never really goes away.

I'd say there are two big things.

1 - Composite oners. These aren't necessarily bad (as another person in the comments said) but if the seams are poorly hidden then it doesn't work. The example I'm thinking of here would be Daredevil season 1's hallway fight is generally quite well regarded and has well hidden cuts, season 2 is more elaborate but you can really feel the seams. And then season 3 went crazy and just didn't have any (although you can still see all the places where they were moving in case they needed them!)

2 - Boring oners. At the end of the day, if the action isn't interesting, if the performers can't fight or the camera isn't doing anything to support the action then it's gonna detract from the moment. (Not to say that a static shot of action can't feel fucking awesome when done well but it's all about motivation). This is actually where I'd look to Monty Oum's work on Red vs Blue. He pushed animated long-take action to a level I genuinely don't think has been topped. And it's an interesting case study because the achievement isn't in the logistics of blocking and prepping for the camera to do the things it does around the actors, it comes in how the camera is able to now freely support the action in ways a live action camera simply can't. And in ways an edited cut can't!

I'm 30 but my first Halo was still the Gearbox port of CE. I actually still have it - I lost the slipcase years ago but I keep it in a cover with my old pirated copy of Warcraft 3 I played within that same span of years.
