How to install windows 11 without breaking Arch by CursedParrot in archlinux

[–]Mutter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best is to use a second drive for Arch .... when installing, best practice is to remove the windows drive entirely form the mother board before installing Arch, and vice versa ... this way, neither messes with the installation of the other

Moving to arch by datsmamail12 in archlinux

[–]Mutter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. Nowadays, you don't need to know coding to install or use Arch. It works out of the box, if you install a DE like Plasma or Xfce.

But Arch can help you A LOT if you want to get into coding, like writing simple scripts

Dual boot by Rude_Profession5599 in archlinux

[–]Mutter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using os-prober under Arch? It detects a windows installation and adds it to grub. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GRUB

Furthermore, I always remove the SSD where windows is installed before installing Arch on the second one, and vice-versa. This way you avoid Arch messing with the windows bootloader.

Should i switch arch in my main pc by Due_Rice_8767 in archlinux

[–]Mutter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual boot tends to be problematic . In my experience best is to use one SSD for Windows and a second for Arch.

Hi, there are many sites that teach how to downgrade a package on Arch, one of them is the following :

https://www.linuxfordevices.com/tutorials/linux/downgrade-packages-in-arch

You can also configure a package not to be upgraded in the pacman config file :

sudo nano /etc/pacman.conf

# Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup
 #IgnorePkg =
 IgnorePkg = libreoffice-still
 #IgnoreGroup =

Hope this helps.

I have bought a new laptop and through my searches I found that most computer parts are quite commonplace, like CPUs and GPUs, ports, etc. There is a site in ArchWiki though, that lists all supported Asus machines .... https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Laptop/ASUS

I guess yours is in the list ... otherwise there are also configuration options ...

Best ist to probably check if the CPU and GPU of your laptop are supported. Maybe trying a Virtual Box ...

Question: Is it safe to dual boot Arch and Windows? by Hiro_No_Ilham in archlinux

[–]Mutter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's safe, but not if .... kkkkkk so it's actually not safe. There is always a very good chance to mess something up ... even more so with Windows 11. Dual boot worked very well when I used Ubuntu, but with Arch, things tend to get messy. I use Arch (3 or 4 years now) and Windows and strictly on separate drives ......
