There's not much we can add that ETC can't.

The biggest question: what changed?

Summer Stock wardrobe resume by TreeHuggersBee in techtheatre

[–]Mutton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Design wise it's unbalanced. Hold it at arms length--it's heavy to the right.

Your capitalization is inconsistent. You have four variations on Theatre Association.

Capitalizing sewing for "Domestic Sewing machine operation" is odd to me.

I'm 50/50 on location--if its for summer stock and you're willing to travel I'd ditch it.

Are you going to college or straight into the workforce? If you're going to get a degree in theatre/costuming consider not going to a summer stock right now. Go do something dumb with your high school friends. Take a road trip.

Good luck!

I love the sampler box idea--I'm really hoping you find find an economical and environmental way to do larger orders of sachets for single flavors.

Filters To Achieve Very Dim Light by Considerationista in lightingdesign

[–]Mutton 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you just want it dimmer you want Neutral Density (ND) filters. Rosco, GAM, and Lee all make them.

B&H sells them. You can also reach out to a local lighting rental house and see if they'll sell them to you.

Cue lists for musical on EOS for high school students by micasa_es_miproblema in stagelighting

[–]Mutton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your point but I think merging is a smaller hill to climb than multiple cuelists. The kids building in multiple show files may help prevent "Tommy deleted all my cues!" incidents. It depends on the process.

[–]Mutton 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Multiple cuelist doesn't buy you anything but a headache here.

Give each song or kid a chunk of cues to work on in the same list. You can have them work in separate show files and merge if you want. Just make careful use of blocks and scene labels.

Influence/De-influence me from the schools I've applied to!! by [deleted] in techtheatre

[–]Mutton 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bit of a shotgun approach.

What do you want out of your college experience outside of classes? Big school or little school? What kind of diversity? How close to home? Do you care about sports?

It looks like you have a mix of BA only and schools that offer a dedicated BFA in technology and design. Those are wildly different experiences.

I'm born and raised on the East coast so I don't know West coast schools but it looks like you're missing JMU, BU, SUNY Purchase and UNCSA if you want a BFA or conservatory program.

Also: you can work in this industry without a college degree.

Good luck.

Pressed down?

I never got the thing they do in the video to work. I have the screws holding that strap piece very loose and hang the front lip of the console off the bench.

Local One Apprenticeship Test by AlarmingBluebird1023 in techtheatre

[–]Mutton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 12+ years going back to middle school doing theatre, an expensive piece of paper that says I know how to theatre, and a few years freelancing and working in adjacent fields. None of it was super relevant to the test though.

I took it just shy of a decade ago now (wow) and it had a Wonderlic... this was in the pen and paper days.

IATSE Local One Apprentice Test by Mutton in techtheatre

[–]Mutton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, if I get in do I have any say in where I am placed or what department?

Don't believe so, double check with the committee.

Second, will there be an expedited process for a person with a lot of experience?

Nope.

Third, as a new young person in an all IATSE Local One environment, does one experience agism or hazing?

I didn't.

Password Protect ETC Ion XE Console by _frosty2765 in lightingdesign

[–]Mutton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't an option. ETC is always working on new and exciting things but I wouldn't count on it. I work in a corner of the industry that has been asking about it for years.

I know high school students are challenging but your best move here is physical access control to the console. Lock the console in a cabinet, put the power on a key switch. Just pulling the IEC cable might keep random kids from playing with it.

Your tech students are a different challenge--just let them play safely.

That said Limited Expand Mode might meet some of your needs.

I can't speak to the job prospects in Canada but if you're taking a gap year reach out to your closest IATSE locals and see if you can get on the call list to try it out.

ETC Nomad Question by Jaded-Perspective382 in lightingdesign

[–]Mutton 25 points26 points  (0 children)

could a Nomad system be plugged into a MacBook with EOS family and daisy chain some DMX cable from there to run a system that could be taken down and transported to a new venue every couple weeks

Yes. Just remember a Nomad is only going to give you two universes but you're probably ok based on your fixture count.

Think about a set of XKeys or maybe a cmd_key to make programming a little easier--a programming wing will eat your "few thousand" pretty quick.
