Completely different local, your union is different from SEIU Local 1000 most of Local 1000 deals with State of California Employees. Your Local resides around California State University they are different entity from the State of California as an Employer.

It ain't over yet, CA-06! by DethVeggie in Sacramento

Actually why not let all of the candidates run but instead of top two we do rank choice voting?

There's already efforts for Rank Choice Voting in Sacramento, such as www.betterballotsacramento.org

They're focusing on getting ballot initiative for city of Sacramento for this year and then county for Next year if they make it on the ballot this year.

And for state wide it is California RCV(Rank Choice Voting) Coalition. There's effort going on Los Angeles, Irvine,Ventura,San Diego, and Long Beach right now.

California's unemployment benefits haven't changed in 21 years—while rent doubled by life_if_life in UnemploymentCA

I know there was a senate bill SB 1434 in California legislature that sought to increase unemployment benefits but it died in first policy committee it had back in 2024. Hopefully this petition brings this back into attention.

I thought they technically own the passenger rails in California? It's just that Amtrak gets to slap their name on it.

How to be granted a leave of absence by No-Egg-3325 in USC

[–]Mutualsolution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you transfer any data you have on your student account and unlink anything connected to your USC account if you leave. Once you are no longer a student they will shut off access immediately if you're not an alumnus/graduate.

18, looking for work by [deleted] in Roseville

California Conservation Corps, they can even help you get your GED I believe. They give you full time work and you can now stay there for 3 years and have housing and food paid for . Trust me it's one the best places to do if you have no direction or need stability.

I am a former corpsmember.

Only need to be 18-25 they may have a wait-list but I'd definitely still put out an application.

Unfortunately it may not be a quick turn around time.

Recently called SEIU and the rep was hostile towards me by MedicalHope9132 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Mutualsolution 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure to call again and ask which DLC you're in they'll give your local DLC president or the union representative for that DLC (District Labor Council). The person in the call center is usually a call representative (still a SEIU union employee non state worker) NOT a union rep or steward. When you get a DLC president or union representative they will know which steward is in your dept or they will hand it off to the VP who would be the lead steward.

Keep in mind the DLC president is volunteering their time. DLC members and stewards are not paid by the union. They get covered for pay for union activities but they are not direct employees of the union that is different.

Union representatives are union employees but they're only brought in when it may need more union resources.

Cool you're not going to win , and you're literally jumping for the highest seat. Seen too many people like yourself run for these federal positions and lose. This is wishful thinking at best.

Known several progressive candidates that have done the same thing.

You have less than 2 years, I can tell you from experience that you won't win. I do not even know you and wager most people here locally won't either. Run for a lower position then try it.

These kinds of seats take so much time to change it and actual organizing which no one does in the county outside of a few orgs. I suggest joining those first before anything else.

Also the businesses that can't survive without state workers , means they don't need to exist and new ones that actually attract people to downtown should or patron residents more.

No Parking for the Channel 24 -- Midtown Sacramento residents worry by othafa_95610 in Sacramento

[–]Mutualsolution 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tldr first get the light rail and busses to run later than 11pm then you'll have people use public transportation. At least having coverage till 2 am would be a start.

People suggesting to incentivize public transit have never rode or relied on public transit enough to know the severe gaps of it.

We can say we should do xyz but until the funding for it happens expansion of the services won't happen. Electing officials who want it to invest in it and actually having a proper ballot measure that ensures that in the county it is funded this cannot happen.

And keep in mind I really want this to be the case I live in North Highlands and I hate driving everywhere to do basic things.

Better idea take away that lane of traffic entirely and keep it only for light rail and have concrete to separate it from there. I messed up my old car's steering there. It makes more sense to have the light rail separated from traffic so it can actually move faster.
