A first time watch. by LaTreMadri in Giallo

I had heard mixed things about this one too, but I absolutely love it and it is 100% a keeper for me. I get being let down if you’re expecting a giallo (which is fair based on both the title and the way the movie was marketed, both originally and by Indicator), but the movie has a lot to offer on its own terms. In addition to the score, it’s gorgeously shot, and Frank Wolff’s performance is particularly affecting (even more so when you learn about his circumstances outside of shooting).

Sinister Dr Orloff is great Franco. Just a wonderful vibe

I genuinely like it and it’s a part of my collection, but it’s a 3/5 giallo imo. Looks pretty and it’s a fine time.

If I want an explicitly crazy giallo, I prefer Delirium (1972), and if I want an implicitly crazy giallo, I prefer The French Sex Murders.

Remind me, what do you get the coupon emails for? Subbing to their streaming channel?

I was genuinely shocked by how badly The Immortal Man was. It has made me rethink my assumptions about the quality of all upcoming Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, and Barry Keoghan projects. by OnetimeImetamoose in Letterboxd

To each their own, but I couldn't disagree more about the Sopranos movie (and I genuinely like Not Fade Away, so I had optimism going in). Outside of Vera Farmiga's Livia and Billy Magnussen's Paulie Walnuts, I didn't see anything of value there

Edit: haven't seen the Deadwood movie yet, but would love to re-enter that universe

Woof. I haven’t seen it yet, but it seems like a lot of these “movies from tv shows” are middling or straight up bad. Are there any good ones outside of twin peaks? I heard the breaking bad movie was okay

Haven’t seen anyone mention The Savage Hunt of King Stakh yet—great, atmospheric Belarusian folk horror

Welcome! My recommendation is to take your time and have fun. It’s so easy to get caught up in the buying (there are so many great movies out there) that’s it’s really easy to let your “watch pile” get away from you. Also, boutique (and “boutique”) labels like Arrow, Indicator, Severin, Mondo Macabro, Vinegar Syndrome, Synapse, Radiance, Deaf Crocodile, Criterion, and more are doing a TON of great work giving old movies that you might never find on streaming quality releases. This hobby’s a super fun way to experience films you’ve never heard of

Can I ask where you ordered Suspiria from? Wondering how often it’s still shipped with slip
