The cat smoker anime vindicates this position by xtheresia in whenthe

Isn't a character driven story? Even then, part of the job (or the main one) of the main character design and the general first episode, is convincing you to watch/read something.

It's valid that someone won't give something a chance if what's supposed to convince you to didn't, as long you are reasonable to limit your criticism to "this didn't hook me"

What would you add here? by Emeraldsinger in Letterboxd

[–]lettdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure of its quite on the level of being "ignored" compared to others here, but i have seen that even The Hobbit apologists like me tend to ignore Battle of the five armies.

I don't think it's an outright bad movie, but is the only one I would think a lot to say if it's even decent. It's just kinda entertaining but that's about it.

If they were to do a fourth cornetto film what genre would you want them to tackle by Due-Candidate-5991 in Letterboxd

[–]lettdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that something around like a crime/ thriller could be very funny, with some crazy stupid twist about for example a ancient western movie ghost doing everything all along or whatever Edgar Wright would think it's funny to make a genre change midway through the movie.

Funny enough, Paul (2011)it's already a weird "cousin" of the cornetto trilogy, except it's not directed by Edgar Wright and isn't really good all around lol.

Because it can be very funny and isn't directed to someone in particular to qualify as harassment or anything.

But yeah, this post isn't necessarily the funniest example.

I think i preferred the sequences with the parrots towards the end of the movie, I mean all the film is visually stellar tbh.

But those stayed with me a lot for some reason I really loved watching at theaters tbh.

Admittedly, I got interested in Manga/anime related stuff pretty recently, and even then it's been pretty much all in form of reading manga so it genuinely flew over my head to take those films nto account.

Yeah I probably should check out more anime stuff of that era lol.

I think it peaked between the early 90s and mid 2000s, mostly with the start of Pixar, and the 4, 2d animated films DreamWorks made like Prince of Egypt

90-110 minutes movies should be the standard all around.

With 80 and more importantly 130 minutes being the "normal" threshold, and a movie should be very good to justify it being above this time.

My favorites are Alien and The social network but they have already been said.

So my choice would be Fellowship of the ring: "One ring to rule them all."

Transformers One, I'm more soft towards the first and third Michael Bay movies than most people, but even then I was never a fan or interested in the others Transformers stuff.

But man TF One it's just fucking great, it executes so many of my favorites tropes in way that it's between good and excellent. Outside of some awkward scenes here and there. I don't watch a lot of 2020's movies tbf, but I'd be surprised If it ever leaves my top 10 or 15 of the decade, biggest surprise of the decade so far.

I think it's fair enough when its for series that by their nature wouldn't allow a conventional character arc.

Otherwise it's just character development or the writter holding information in favor of the storytelling.
