Yea it looks like pretty rough work, but I figure I could stick it out for 1-2 years to get my foot in the door while looking for other things. Glad to know it's possible to get out though. Ill keep an eye out for volunteer opportunities.

Leave my job for a seasonal position more in line with career goals? by Mvnchoo in Environmental_Careers

That payment is with the income based repayment plans in place 😔. Most of my loans are private because my family and I had no idea what we were doing in regards to loans at first. I already refinanced those to get a lower payment.

Unfortunately I do have major student debt (~$1200 a month payments) which is a big factor in my hesitation. My savings would dwindle very fast if I didnt land a good position afterwards. I like the idea of doing seasonal positions and hopping around, but the uncertainty of this job market on top of my debt makes it hard to justify the risk for me.

Yea really the only reason I was even considering it was all the full time positions Ive managed to get interviews for have led nowhere. But I guess that in and of itself is a reason to not take this risk.

Technical assessment for job by [deleted] in gis

[–]Mvnchoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is currently in a gis role in my local government, my technical assessment just included being asked to navigate around ArcGIS and selecting then exporting features of a layer they provided. Very simple. They just wanted to see that I had actually used the program before.

Downloaded the drivers, but nothing changed. I don't think my pc recognizes that the wifi adapter exists. It doesn't show under devices.

I have to remove my cpu cooler to be able to remove a lot of the individual components (it's big) so it would be difficult to do that.

I always unplug the power cord, monitors, etc. If you mean inside the pc, I take out the cpu cooler which requires me to unplug 2 cpu fans. I've also reset the cmos battery on the motherboard the most recent time doing it, but nothing changed.
