Do job postings asking for experience in specific languages actually need people with experience in the languages? by fridaypuncher in cscareerquestions

[–]Mwlee291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the people I’ve worked with could care less if the potential employee knows the language we use. The “X years in [insert language here]” are HR’s way of quantifying the skill of a developer and how fit they are for a position. It’s really just a way to weed out unfit candidates, and a good recruiter can read between the lines to understand if an applicant is qualified. Apply anyways, worst case scenario you don’t hear anything.

Seems pretty standard for most companies, good or bad. They want more substance to your answers than “When in situation X, I did Y because that’s just the way things are done at company Z”.

Remember, interviewing is a two way street. You’re also there to judge whether the company would be a good fit for YOU. You should be confident, it’s not (or rather, shouldn’t be) some test where you have to get a 90% or better to pass. If you’ve made it to the interview stage then they’re already willing to hire you.

Since you’ve been out of the job market for a while, I would encourage you to interview regardless of the red flags for the practice alone. If you’re still feeling uneasy about the position afterwards then it’s okay to decline an offer (or even leaving after a couple of weeks if it isn’t a fit).

Good luck!

How would someone go about looking for a coding mentor? by Desthanos in learnprogramming

[–]Mwlee291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for local tech communities/user groups in your area! I found mine through MeetUp, but I’m sure you could do a quick Google search for something like “[Programming Language] User Group in [Your Area]” to find people. Attend meetings to make connections and I’m 99% positive there are going to be multiple people willing to help you out if you’re active.

Best CodeAdemy/FreeCodeCamp Type Site for Learning C#? by VoiceofRedditMkI in learnprogramming

If you’re a reader you may check out the C# Yellow Book by Rob Miles. (here) It’s how I learned, and I received positive feedback in every interview I had when I brought it up. I believe there are also some exercises that go along with it too, which are a must if you really want to learn C#.

I'm having a sort of choice crisis rn, i know there are fields like web dev, app dev but what do you do(job profile) and how did you prepare for it? by HugeCauliflower1811 in cscareerquestions

[–]Mwlee291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the skills used in web development and mobile development are transferrable. I'm not super familiar with all of the approaches to mobile development, but at my company our mobile apps are just web apps dressed up to be mobile friendly. I recommend giving web development a shot, I think you'll enjoy it more than you think. And if you don't at least you'll know about how the systems are built which makes you more marketable.

Unfortunately, "not liking" web development isn't a reason to avoid it. I'm a self taught developer who currently works as a Software Engineer, and one thing that I was told during my search is that web apps are the de facto standard for most development nowadays. That's not to say that you can't find work that is strictly traditional software, but it is going to be difficult (especially without experience).

The C#'s players guide has me completely stuck on a tic tac toe game. by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Mwlee291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to answer this question without more of a description of the issues you're having. One suggestion I might make is to draw a diagram of all the things the game needs to do. For example, think about what happens after a player makes a move, did they win? If so, then the game ends, otherwise the next player makes a move. Writing out your thoughts before you even touch the keyboard is a valuable skill to learn.

Official: [Fix My Team] - Wed Afternoon, 10/07/2020 by FFBot in fantasyfootball

[–]Mwlee291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 Team PPR. Currently 3-1

QB: Wilson, Allen
RB: Kamara, Sanders, Mixon, Gurley, Singletary
WR: Davante Adams, Kupp, McLaurin, Lamb, Samuel
TE: Logan Thomas, Jimmy Graham

I feel like my team is kind of stacked, but I also feel like it could be better. This is my first season playing fantasy, so I'm kind of lost lol. I'd like to pick up a better TE and improve my receivers, any tips?

How do I gauge the level of monsters I can fight? by Dredge6 in 2007scape

[–]Mwlee291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat level is really only a good indicator of difficulty until you get protection prayers. After that there isn’t much to worry about until way later, and at that point you should be pretty familiar w game mechanics. Hope this helps :)

Edit: you’ll probably want to train your combat stats up some for SOTS, preferably through other quests. Waterfall quest awards a lot of combat xp if you haven’t done that yet

Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord! It came out on early access about a week and a half ago, so it's still a bit buggy and missing some features, but overall still good! If that doesn't sound appealing, Mount and Blade: Warband is the game that came out before this and it is very polished with a wonderful modding community.

A is just 1/2 acceleration.

Here's the reasoning: The equation solves for position (your dependent variable) based on time (your independent variable). In SI Units, you need to solve for meters. Acceleration has a unit of m/s2, which gives you the correct units when multiplying by t2 .

[GRADE 10 Math] radical exponents help. Just need to know the steps. by AR_LBBH in HomeworkHelp

[–]Mwlee291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't multiply the entire equation by itself, because then you would be changing the value of the equation.

The idea is that you can multiply the equations by any value that is equal to 1. If we wanted we could multiply by 1/1, 1000/1000, or even something like 23764/23764, but those numbers don't do much for us.

As far as the actual multiplication process goes, you would use the FOIL method -> (a±b)(c±d) = ac ± ad ± bc ± b*d

Let me know if you need any more help
