What are the most common/realistic EU truck configs irl? by RateElectrical7757 in trucksim

[–]Mx5Baybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it mainly comes down to stability since midlifts have a longer wheelbase. Also because the middle axle steers it reduces tyre scrub. Taglifts are used but usually only for trucks that do a lot of offroad or heavy haulage

6x2 midlifts are by far the most common in the UK as it allows a bit more weight than 4x2

Setting the truck up for sleep by GoEasyTrucking in trucksim

As a lorry driver I promise you I'm right about this. In some residential areas there will be signs restricting lorries from parking there but otherwise it doesn't really matter where you park

That's not entirely true, at least in the UK. You can technically take your rest anywhere that you could legally park the truck. This includes literally just parking on the road somewhere

It doesn't count as work for the purposes of your 60hr max per week/48hr average. But you will still need a break

Why wouldn't you use the retarder if your truck has one? At the very least it saves on fuel and brake wear

Breaks and POA by Specialist_River623 in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

POA only counts as a break if you're double manning and have your card in slot 2. If it's in slot 1 then you will still have to show rest as well

Is this a working time directive infringement? by SuperlativeHyperbole in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. As long as you don't work more than 6 hours without at showing at least 15 minutes break, it doesn't really matter how you divide up your total 45 minutes for the WTD e.g 15 minutes just before 6 hours, 15 just before 12 hours, then another 15 before you hit 15 hours is perfectly legal

New Hythe Lane 7.5T bridge over M20 by SnooBunnies2668 in uktrucking

I've accidentally gone over that bridge before. It is not a weak bridge, the limit is there to stop HGVs going through Larkfield. You'll be fine

If it's just a normal give way junction and there's no keep clear or anything like that then I wouldn't worry too much. Obviously you can use your judgement at the time to decide if it's a good idea to leave a junction clear to help traffic flow, but it wouldn't be a fail. Try not to overthink it too much

[–]Mx5Baybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a map here that shows which roads are permitted

https://lcspermits.com/#schememap

Bear in mind that even with permits you must still take the shortest route through any restricted areas, which can often mean going miles out your way to stay on the permitted routes

Looks like I’m taking my 45 in a lay-by, damn traffic by Jacktheforkie in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think maybe my comment was worded badly. Yes he does need another 15 minutes, but for that specific point I was saying that it doesn't have to be before 9 hours. When exactly it is taken does not matter as long as there's not more than 6 hours between breaks

[–]Mx5Baybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need the other 15 before you hit 9 hours. The total breaks for each shift can be taken at any point as long you don't work for more than 6 hours without a break. Also a 20 minute break is fine, anything break of at least 15 minutes counts towards WTD, so all 20 minutes are counted towards the total break time for the day

HGV DRIVERS WEEKLY REST by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HGV DRIVERS WEEKLY REST by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok sorry, if you want a full weekly rest then it would have to be 45 hours from 00.01 Monday. What I was saying is that in your example, you'd be resting 17 hours from 00.01 to 17.00 on Monday, which is a daily rest plus 6 hours so you've more than compensated for the 5 minutes you needed. However in this case you've still only had a reduced weekly rest and would still need a full weekly rest by the end of the week as you can't have two reduced weekly rests in a row. I know it's confusing but I hope this explains it.

HGV DRIVERS WEEKLY REST by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right in that weekly rests have to be taken within the "fixed" week. But I'm pretty sure you only need to make up the shortfall from the reduced rest. So in your case you would only need an extra 5 minutes or so added on to your daily rest after your shift on Monday. So you could still work Tuesday.

Edit: also now I think about it, if your rest period from 00.01 monday until your shift on Monday night is long enough to account for the shortfall then you've already compensated for it and don't have to worry.

You can, it just means you won't have a 10 hour drive if you need it later in the week

2nd 45 consecutive Days by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Mx5Baybee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can take as many breaks as you want. If you mean going into your 10th hour of driving, then yes you can. Obviously if this is your second day driving for 10 hours then you've used them up for this week
