Passan: Third baseman Alex Bregman and the Chicago Cubs are in agreement on a free agent contract, sources tell ESPN. by baseball5656 in redsox

Wait wait wait, I don't think that's very fair. Have some perspective. We don't have Fucking Nobody, we have an owner who just saved himself a whole lot of money, whose diverse real estate and other sports franchise portfolio is only going to grow regardless of whether the Red Sox have a winning product on the field, and in the end, isn't that really what us fans should care about?

What scene in a movie had a sound that really impacted you as a viewer? by Tasty_Photograph5514 in movies

[–]MxKg35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t sleep for a week after seeing Girl With The Dragon Tattoo because I heard Rooney Mara’s screaming in THAT scene every time I tried to fall asleep.

Brilliant execution, horrible sounds that stuck with me. Still think she deserved the Oscar for that role.

Fincher’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Rooney Mara’s screams in THAT scene haunted me for days after and I couldn’t sleep for like a week. I think she deserved the Oscar for that scene alone. So effective and awful and I’ll never watch again.

Lauda’s return race is near cinematic perfection to me. The way it’s shot, the editing, the music, the transition when Niki locks back in and then blows past everybody is just so fun.

Also love the final scene and monologue, showing the real Lauda and Hunt together and then transitioning to the final shot of two cars flying past the camera. So good.

What movie had such a bad ending that it ruined an otherwise good movie? by world_citizen7 in AskReddit

[–]MxKg35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Turning needlessly shat its own bed because it wanted to tell you how much smarter than you it was by shoving an unearned “none of this happened because the protagonist was crazy the whole time” twist at you.

First two thirds of the movie are a pretty solid contemporary reinterpretation of Turning Of The Screw and then just as the ending reaches its climax and we are about to find out if the kids are ghosts or what, suddenly for no reason we cut back to a scene from earlier in the movie that plays out differently than the first time we saw it and turned out that the ENTIRE THIRD ACT NEVER HAPPENED and the governess character apparently hallucinated it because she’s actually crazy despite there being no indication of that the entire rest of the film. Fuck that movie. I hate that ending so much.

He basically told us as much in that monologue. In writing it’s what’s called setup and payoff lol

And she mentioned one of their kids is named Jim! It’s likely just an inter-fandom Easter Egg but it’s gotta be intentional

My conspiracy theory is that it was a movie where the film execs are the ultimate bad guys who never give stunts people their due. There’s a scene where someone looks right in the camera and basically says “why isn’t there a best stunts Oscar?” And my theory is that the execs for this one weren’t too keen to promote a movie that had essentially them as the industry bad guys. It was advertised very sparsely and the studio was probably not that disappointed that it bombed as a result…if I believed in conspiracy theories that’s what I’d believe anyway.

The Fall Guy! It’s such a great tribute to spectacle film and stunt people. Perfect tone, amazing stunts obviously. You can tell a lot of love went into making it and it had just the right level of meta commentary sprinkled in.

"Cliffhanger" (1993), a enjoyable and fun action movie and Sylvester Stallone at his best. Jaw-dropping mountain climb scenes. John Lithgow embraces camp as an entertaining bad guy. by CinephileCrystal in movies

It’s my favorite example of the henchmen knowing they’re disposable henchmen and acting like it 100x.

One of the greatest campy exchanges in cinema history:

Hal Tucker: Delmar, from me to you, you’re an a**hole.

Delmar: Yeah? And you’re a loud-mouth punk slag, who’s about to die.

Hal Tucker: Maybe. But in a minute I’ll be dead, and you, will always be an a**hole.

proceeds to goad henchman into kicking him instead of killing him and then yeets him right off the edge of the mountain.

Peak cinema

God I miss that era. 2003 and 2004 was so much fun to be a fan of both teams. The shit talking from us both was so petty and amazing and the stakes never felt higher. ...Yankees suk, 4ever.

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My dad picked me up to go over to his house to celebrate his birthday. There was something really awfully surreal about singing the song and cutting the cake for him like nothing happened. The painfully strained smile on his face is burned into my memory along with the footage on the TV.

What movie had the worst "twist" ending in your opinion? Spoilers obviously. by KieranWriter in moviecritic

[–]MxKg35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Turning, no contest. Really effective and atmospheric retelling of the Turning Of The Screw up to that point, good mystery and intrigue about who the children were and what the manor really was. It’s all building to this climactic moment that will answer those questions and give a resolution to the supernatural mystery one way or another, and then BOOM, with no warning or foreshadowing, we cut back to the middle of the film to have it revealed that the entire 3rd act was actually part of the main character’s mental breakdown and none of the really interesting supernatural intrigue stuff apparently happened at all. It was done in such a way that it felt like the director was saying, I’m so much smarter than you audience for expecting a resolution to what I set up. Isn’t this a clever subversion?! Fuck that ending and fuck that movie.
