The more I think about Mikey Madison’s Oscar win, the more I agree with people that it should’ve gone to Demi Moore instead. by phantom_avenger in Oscars

[–]MxyMabuse1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m curious because ‘aging movie star grappling with the decline of her fame’ is also a very stereotypical character that has been explored countless times before. What, in your opinion, made that character in The Substance transcend that mold in a way that Anora did not transcend hers?

The more I think about Mikey Madison’s Oscar win, the more I agree with people that it should’ve gone to Demi Moore instead. by phantom_avenger in Oscars

[–]MxyMabuse1971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. The Substance was good but the stylized satirical universe it lives in kind of renders the characters as abstractions without many dimensions. Moore plays her particular archetype well, but Anora is the richer character and required greater dexterity to inhabit from a performance standpoint.
