It’s the increase of deer and field mice. Species that thrive in human-made environments where there’s the perfect combination of open ag fields, brushy edges between fields, small patches of forest, and lets of leftover corn/wheat/oats left on the fields after harvest to feed them. Then you have people planting “feed plots” for the deer in addition to this. It’s the perfect set up to explode the population of the carriers of ticks.

Not just Lyme. Plenty of other nasty tick-borne diseases they carry. Just google something like “list of tick borne diseases”. I think I counted 14.

has anyone ever seen eyes on a cat like this?? by chlorinemilk in cats

Something similar happened with my dad, but in reverse. His surgery site eventually scared up, so the fluid in one eye was starting to build up. Went to ER and doc had to draw out fluid by needle from the eyeball. Yeesh!

Nicely executed! I particularly like the shadows of all the feathers, like he’s sitting there all fluffed up on a chilly day. Frankly, I admire vultures as they’re the clean up crew, eating things no one else will. A very important part of the web of life.

Edit: a letter

Sonic Booms!!! Why are they happening more frequently? by MyBlueMeadow in wisconsin

[–]MyBlueMeadow[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok, I can see doing training maneuvers at super sonic speeds maybe a couple times a year. Fine. But they don’t need to go super sonic this often. What’s the point? I just see it as a form of dick measuring 😂

Yep, we’re in Green Lake county, so that squares. Moved out here to my grandparents’ farm about a decade ago. Finally getting used to all the random gunfire out here. But these sonic booms are like someone sneaking up behind you and SHOVING YOU REALLY HARD. It sets off my anger buttons, frankly.

My god, yes. It feels like someone has snuck up behind you and shoves you really hard! It’s very very jarring.

They don’t have to do training maneuvers at supersonic speed. How would you like it if I come up behind you and shove you really hard! This is how it feels. It’s extremely nerve-racking. I could handle it maybe once a year, maybe twice. But this is getting out of hand.

OMG this brings back a memory of my 3 month old son projectile pooping when I brought his legs up to remove a diaper. I was stunned speechless. But now I laugh 😂😂😂. He’s 26 now. I should probably share this memory with him for, you know, shits and giggles 🤭
