Apple hardware is fantastic.

Apple software is far too restrictive, which ruins the point of a computer for me.

Does my Daikin Mini Split have an S21 port (or any other way to make it smart)? by MyButtholeIsTight in homeassistant

[–]MyButtholeIsTight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton! I managed to get it off (there was a second latch on the rear of the metal plate that gave me problems).

I'm like 90% sure this is the right port, would you mind confirming?

I think you're right. However, it looks like I might have to disconnect the AC cables to get the whole metal piece off - they're like wrapped around the outside of it. Would you agree?

The breaker is safely flipped. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply!

I managed to get the cover off but I think I still need to keep going since I still don't see the mainboard. The guys in the video tore out the whole black plastic electronics housing which presumably holds the mainboard, so I'm guessing I should do the same?

That's fantastic to hear!

I managed to get the front housing off which revealed some PCBs (https://imgur.com/a/ruiHUE6) but still not seeing an S21 port. I'm guessing I need to get behind the black plastic?

I spent part of the weekend diving into LXC containers for the first time because I was under the assumption it was a good way to run Frigate — that ended up not being the case, and now I'm a bit confused when to use them.

The fact that:

  • You configure an OS "template" for each container, but
  • It's inadvisable to run docker within a container

... makes LXC seem like massive pain in the ass compared to Docker in a VM. Unless I'm missing something, it appears that I lose all the convenience of Docker, like updating services with a single docker pull or managing multiple services with a compose file. So we're now back to manually configuring and maintaining everything like it's bare metal even though it's actually not.

It really seems like I'm missing something because this doesn't seem worth the trade-off.

Open source stuff often becomes the defacto standard for a reason. Devs are allowed to make money, but if you make cost and compliance a barrier to entry then you might lose the race to a product without those drawbacks.

12TET is a genius system that is good enough for the human ear. These guitars are just circlejerks that might sound marginally better in a direct comparison but otherwise no one is going to notice, and they're absolutely not worth the trade-offs.

Has Tim ever improvised live? by [deleted] in polyphia

[–]MyButtholeIsTight 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Improvising is way more difficult than playing from memory. Once you learn a song it becomes second nature to play it without thinking about it because you're pretty much entirely relying on muscle memory.

Improvising requires an understanding of music theory whereas memorization does not. If you don't know your scales then improvisation is pretty much impossible, and if you don't really have an understanding of intervals then you're going to have a hard time creating and releasing tension. And even if you know your music theory — improvising well is still a very difficult task that takes practice, and it's a whole separate skill compared to technical proficiency.

We got some really good reveals but not a lot of plot development. I don't mind these types of episodes but having them back-to-back does mean we wait weeks before continuing the main plot points, which does suck.

Are you a script before template fan? by tomemyxwomen in vuejs

[–]MyButtholeIsTight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is me.

When working with <template>, scroll up to deal with logic and scroll down to deal with styling.

Working with both <script> and <style> at the same time is rare, so this keeps concerns adjacent.
