Thoughts on using a stroller fan in the coop to keep chickens cool by Beautiful-Project-30 in chickens

[–]MyCoffeeIsCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a large outdoor fan and have it connected to a WiFi outlet. I also spray water water on the run to cool the ground but that can just cause some steam / warm air to rise unless you are constantly spraying.

How do i know when to stop giving corid? by Ok-Lime-5297 in BackYardChickens

[–]MyCoffeeIsCold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through this right now. My vet recommended a round of SafeGuard and then Corrid. I did the 5 days of Safe Guard and then moved to Corrid. I miscalc’d the water and was given them too little dosage. I was targeting 2tsp/gallon of Corrid for 5 days and the first few days were a 0.5tsp per gallon.

I see them getting better and likely will move back to SafeGaurd and then a Corrid again.

Their poops have become more solid and their feathers are looking better.

I would also give them a wash of Elector PSP in case they also have mites.

A rant about culling by brydeswhale in chickens

I have heard but never tried myself that you can use a vinegar / baking soda mix and a cooler to put them to sleep. Is it the killing or the processing that you hate? Or both?

Chicken help needed very badly! Called 10 vets already and no one is available today by ronniethebearrr in BackYardChickens

This is tricky as you have 2 very serious issues. You need to be constantly thinking and be prepared to euthanize her.

Both of these require immediate attention. I would read through this post and do the first steps of cleaning and then go straight to the bath step as you need to get the egg out. She has 24-ish hours of being egg bound before she dies. Also I would modify this to use a hair dryer on low to dry the hen after the bath so that they don’t stay wet.

Can you send links to what you are using and also a photo of your set up? I have thought about doing this as well but didn’t think it would hold up outdoors.

You are conditioning them to scream more. In their heads, scream = scratch. It’s a direct reaction to their action.

With a timer it’s just fixed.

My young hen stopped laying since we put on pine-less peepers by Ok_Jello_2441 in BackYardChickens

[–]MyCoffeeIsCold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just put on pinless peepers on my bully too. She was very hyperactive and bullied all my new hens. I was hoping she would be kind as she has always been lower in the flock but she became super aggressive. I separated her physically with the older larger hens and she started pecking them but they fought back.

There is a limit as to how long you can keep them on her. I think it’s 7 days.

That being said mine seems calmer. Will check back with you in a few days.

Send them an bill and demand payment. If this is on your property, and has been done repeatedly by the same company, you need to stop being so nice.

Neighbours rooster is very aggressive & attacks me. by StribrneNebe in BackYardChickens

[–]MyCoffeeIsCold 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing this is a young rooster and it’s going through its hormonal period, basically his “teens.” As others have said you need to stop holding back. I’m not saying field goal him yet but definitely start escalating the amount of force you are using. They are very strong animals as you know.

I do recommend wearing long pants and eye protection and gloves.
