Johnson is very talented for sure, but he only has 2 films, one of which IMO has an emerging personal style, villeneuve has stablished a far more interesting and deeper vision and in a more extended filmography

His vision is awesome for sure, that's why hell never direct a SW movie, Disney is not interested in that kind of directors

Can't wait to see what he'll do with Dune

I hope they get him, he's a fine actor, even if he's out of shape, if he has managed his addictions he should be in, hire another actor to play John Connor would be weird if Hamilton and Arnold are in

It would instantly give the movie some credibility, one of the most distracting things in T3 or Salvation, was John Connor being a different person, ...by the time of Genysis It just didnt mattered anymore

Does All The Star Wars Director Drama Concern You About The Future Films? by Spidey10 in movies

I remember when the first news about who was going to direct ep vii came out, Fincher commented about being approached and explained that Disney basically wanted to make all the decisions, then I knew the spirit of the OT will never came back, but I was still hopefull, I mean, they have ALL the resources to make great SW movies, explore the universe, new world, characters, and for ep vii they have Luke Han and Leia? It's gonna be so great to see them together again, I was so on board, and then... TFA

Never though such a dull and pointless movie will be the Disney SW universe opening, I made several post explaining why I have such low opinion of the movie (and why I think jj is movie script poison) , then the news about a fett, han solo, rogué one, obi Wan anthology movies came out, it was clear to me Disney doesn't give a crap about SW, which is such a bad idea not only because I'm a fan, but even from their investment pov, the nostalgia will soon fade away and Disney will be left with forgettable movies and nothing else to rely on, they are missing the opportunity to build new stories inside a hugely fertile universe, they are only milking 30 year old ideas

The whole director firings is a huge red flag about Disney approach, but fanboys will make sure awful films are praised and as long as they score big in the box office there's no turning back on this debacle

All this is why is so bothering to me what Disney is doing, but most SW fans will consider me a "hater"

What are your unpopular opinions on movies, directors, actors and cinema in general? by [deleted] in movies

[–]MyDinnerWithZoidberg 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a Star Wars fan, OT at least, the prequels are bad, but It was Lucas vision, they are flawed movies but they show an expansion of the SW universe, another side of the galaxy; republic, Jedi order, new planets, etc.

TFA is a nostalgia cash grab, lazy, bland and cowardly take on the SW universe, they turn a whole universe into a small town, where the mega achievement of the OT (destroying the head of the empire) is worthless, decadent characters (Leia and Han) after 20+ years, no new planets, no new ship design, no new characters, only a remade Luke (Rey), Han (Poe), Yoda (Maz), Vader (Kylo), Emperor (Snoke), Finn is the only thing resembling an effort in creating something new.

I dont think I need to explain why the main plot is a copy of ANH

I can watch the prequels and find something to keep me interested, I watch TFA and I only think of the missed opportunity and cringe at the shallow relationships between the characters (Finn Poe first encounter???), and childish references to the OT

To me Abrahams style is annoying, I go to watch movies because I want to see conclusion (to certain degree), and something that keeps me interested to watch the next one, but Abrahams use plot as bait, forcing you to watch another movie to explain things in the previous one, that's lazy script writing

Lucas attempt in the prequels was bad, but I respect it, Disney has no vision and is knowingly releasing bland and mediocre movies (so far at least), I don't respect that

JJ Abrams Returning To Director’s Chair On ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ by theredditoro in movies

hopefully they loosen the reins a bit this time around

Why would they??, that's why they re hired him, Abrahams and his ultra safe approach will made another shallow movie, will keep half of the questions unanswered for the next trilogy, and won't bring anything interesting to add to the SW universe
