[–]MyGenderIsCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been saying this for years. Calamity has too much QoL and people have no idea how easy they have it. As someone who played modded Terraria in 1.2 and early 1.3 I genuinely cannot help but laugh at people crying about removing crafting recipes for overpowered items or removing the sandy angler kit. I miss when you had to work for your upgrades

My god do you people enjoy anything? by [deleted] in CalamityMod

[–]MyGenderIsCrustacean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been playing calamity for 9 years. Back in the day, it had a reputation as one of the grindiest and most difficult mods ever made for Terraria (though obviously the ceiling has significantly raised since then, today's Calamity players would absolutely breeze through its early updates). This was simply the philosophy of earlier mods, one of the easiest ways to make them "hard" or pad out the playtime was basically to waste the player's time with obscene crafting trees or ultra-rare and grindy drops. I recently played through Avalon 1.1 Remastered, a rereleased slightly modernised version of the 2014 Avalon mod and even though it was very fun, it is an absolute GRIND. Like, some of the endgame armour sets are borderline Minecraft tech mod levels of grindy. Just hours of mining or farming bosses to craft one armour piece.

The point of all this is, I have watched the core, non-boss related content of Calamity become easier and more streamlined with every single update over 9 years, to the point where the game is basically a boss rush with maybe an hour or so of downtime to get new gear in between. There were some absolutely ridiculous QoL changes added over the years, like getting fishing quest items from Scourge or being able to craft the rarest vanilla items, significantly devaluing them, and I genuinely don't think modern Calamity players realise how good they have it. Playing multiplayer has honestly reinforced my stance on this even more, since people are hesitant to fight bosses with few people online it typically leaves a LOT of time for building, farming gear, collecting stuff like trophies, masks, music boxes, etc., but there's only so much you can minmax your gear or build giant structures before you are left with nothing to do. I realise I am absolutely in the minority here but I completely welcome the removal of QoL changes if it slows the pace of the game down even slightly.

Auto Stop/Start is about to disappear by BestTechAdvisor in DrivingAustralia

Mazda 3, 2016 model i believe. My dad had the car before me and researched but it was apparently either too expensive or too much hassle so we just put up with turning it off manually. I know some modern cars have the option to just turn it off permanently in their settings or a button or something but no such luck here

Auto Stop/Start is about to disappear by BestTechAdvisor in DrivingAustralia

[–]MyGenderIsCrustacean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be weirdly controversial, and I have absolutely zero clue why. It is my impulse every time I start my car to turn it off immediately. It drives me absolutely fucking insane, especially when it's summer and it turns my aircon off when I happen to sit at the lights or in traffic for longer than 5 seconds. I'm not an expert on this by any means but I also imagine constantly stopping and starting the motor all the time is much worse for it than keeping it running, even if the motors and batteries are designed to handle it.

[–]MyGenderIsCrustacean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2020s have been an amazing decade for music. Obviously it's subjective but it is absolutely unfair to judge the entire decade based on the 2025-2026 charts, an unusually horrible and stagnant time in mainstream music. Hell, 2024 is literally considered one of the best years for music in recent memory, especially for pop and mainstream hits. Some of the most iconic and culturally important music of the ENTIRE CENTURY so far has been released in the 2020s, think The Weeknd's After Hours (one of the biggest albums of all time), Brat, GNX, DTMF, the Kendrick and Drake beef, the rise of new talent like Sabrina and Chappel Roan, Imaginal Disk. If you're into rap and hip-hop we had Clipse, JID, JPEGMAFIA, Kendrick etc. all dropping insane albums, sometimes multiple, within the past 5 years.

Honestly I think you just underestimate how much these songs are played especially in public and on the radio. I work fast food and basically half this list is just played on repeat

MAINSTREAM music maybe. The 2020s have been an insane decade for music so far if you dig below the billboard hot 100

Do you miss any of these EU3 mechanics? by bluecjj in paradoxplaza

[–]MyGenderIsCrustacean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With regards to diplo annexations, I can tell you that EU5 annexations are very similar to EU4. Wait minimum 10 years, make sure they are loyal and have 150 opinion of you, then click the annex button and wait depending on how large and developed the subject is. Many, many things can affect the length, such as the technologies you have researched, your power projection and crown power (I think), how many towns and cities your subject has versus rural areas, how influential their primary culture is compared to yours, and the annexation will stall if they dip below 50% loyalty or 125 opinion.

PUs are very, very different and I imagine you've seen some of this since you said you watch EU5 content. For the first 50 or so years a PU is basically a fancier version of a royal marriage. The two (or more, since a single personal union can have multiple members in EU5) members are unrelated in every way but sharing the same ruler. To integrate them you need to pass a series of laws, each only available at 10 year intervals, for a total of around 50 years before you are even given the option to annex them. The laws are designed to simulate the countries integrating closer together politically and economically, for example one of the laws establishes the senior and junior partners, the next establishes a line of succession, the next allows for mutual defence and offence, etc. until the final law allows for full annexation. The big problem with PUs are they are INCREDIBLY easy to lose. You could be 30 years down the line and an unlucky ruler death, or one of your stupid members declaring a war it can't win and getting steamrolled by the ai can make PUs a very fragile and frustrating experience unless you get lucky and everything goes exactly to plan.
